City of Memphis Tree Trimmer in Memphis, Tennessee

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Works under the general supervision of an assigned foreman. Prunes, trims, and removes trees and shrubbery. Trims and prunes trees and shrubs on park properties, using power saws, hydraulic pruners, and hand tools and takes down dead trees and shrubs, requiring climbing trees using a rope and tree saddle. Operates hydraulic trim lift and maintains equipment, such as sharpening saws.

OTHER FUNCTIONS: 1. May apply fertilizers or pesticides as needed. 2. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Requires ability to climb trees using a rope and tree saddle and to walk, usually across wooded areas. Requires lifting objects, such as tree limbs and saws, weighing up to 150 lbs., pulling, and reaching. Requires ability to use hand tools such as hatchet and ax.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Work is performed outdoors, usually in wooded areas exposed to changing weather conditions and temperatures. May be exposed to traffic, fertilizers, pesticides, insects, and poisonous plants.

Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and three (3) months experience involving trimming trees or shrubbery or related area; experience in climbing using a rope and/or tree saddle preferred; or any combination of training and experience that enables one to perform the essential job functions. Must possess and maintain a valid Class "B" Tennessee (or equivalent out-of-state) Commercial Driver's License and must comply with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) Alcohol and Drug Testing rules as a condition of continued employment.

The City Charter requires that City Employees must establish residence within Shelby County withing six (6) months from the date of employment. Proof of residence will be required at the time of hire.
