St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Postdoctoral Research Associate - Chemical Biology & Therapeutics in Memphis, Tennessee
Postdoctoral Position in Radiation Oncology and Chemical Biology
A unique postdoctoral fellow position is available immediately in the joint laboratory of Dr. Christopher Tinkle, Department of Radiation Oncology, and Dr. Anang Shelat, Department of Chemical Biology and Therapeutics, to apply state-of-the-art chemical biology and bioinformatics methodologies across diverse pediatric malignancies to investigate the molecular consequences of defective DNA repair, and to target these deficits using small molecules. This project leverages the institution’s world class repository of patient derived xenograft models and associated genomic and proteomic data sets. This work will directly support the institution’s translational program, with the goal of identifying clinically actionable drug-drug and drug-radiation combination strategies.
Highly motivated individuals with a recent PhD degree and evidence of scientific accomplishment are encouraged to apply. Good communication skills and willingness to work in a team environment are essential. A background in modern drug discovery techniques, chemistry, and chemical biology is desirable.
The applicant must have a strong background in molecular biology -- specifically related to DNA damage response and repair and the cellular response to genotoxic stress – and have experience working with xenograft models of solid and brain tumors. The applicant must be familiar with the basic concepts of radiobiology and be able to work with multivariate and complex biological and chemical datasets. The applicant is expected to work alongside basic biologists, clinicians, and pharmacologists in a project team environment, with the end goal of contributing to the discovery and/or development of small molecules with the potential to synergize with DNA damaging therapies relevant to the treatment of pediatric cancers.
