Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Incumbent will be assigned to the Metal Working Shop at a marine and earth moving equipment repair and maintenance facility. Work assignments are carried out in the shop, aboard vessels, and at field installations. Responsibilities Serves as a member of the dry-docking team for docking and un-docking of vessels. Perform the required planning, layout and fitting work involved in the construction, maintenance and repair of equipment and structures. Reline pumps and drainages pipes, fabricate tanks, buoys, smokestacks, and breechings. Performs sheet metal work involving metals, such as galvanized iron, stainless-steel, tin, copper, lead, zinc, and aluminum for fabrications, modifications, and repairs to plant, budlings, and facilities. Plan, layout, and construct complex templates and/or patterns. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) METAL WORKER WELDER without more than normal supervision; Repair, assembly, and/or installation of various types of metal and alloy. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision Physical effort: The work involves standing, walking, stooping, climbing and crawling. Work may be performed in an awkward or cramped position. Incumbent frequently handles, lifts, or carries parts or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally may lift and carry items weighing more. Working Conditions: Work is perform both inside and outside. Incumbent is subject to injury from lifting and operating machines; burns from electric arc, gas torches, and molten metal; and danger exists to the eyes from metal chips, electric arc, rust and dust. There is also the danger of explosive gases. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
