U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic in Memphis, Tennessee

Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: You will perform the full range of maintenance, repair, and installation services in connection with industrial, electronic, electrical-electronic, electro-hydraulic, and electromechanical controls as contained on various equipment and systems. Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance on all equipment to which assigned. Check motors and bearings for excessive heat. Use testing equipment to test and check electronic components and systems to locate and replace components down to the replaceable part level. Identify weak spots and potential trouble areas and repairs or replaces components to avoid possible future failure. Trace out the different circuits from schematic drawings as related to the electronic, electrical, and electro-mechanical systems on plant. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n)Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic without more than normal supervision. I can install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair industrial, electronic, electrical-electronic electro-hydraulic and electro-mechanical controls as contained on various equipment and systems. I can assist in the installation of new major electronic control systems and troubleshooting existing systems and equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Prefers one of the following: Diploma/certificate/degree from a trade/tech school in Electronics or Industrial Controls Technology, OR Certification/License of Master or Journeyman Electrician, OR QMED-any rating, or QMED-Electrician, or QMED Electrician/ Refrigerating Engineer. Physical Effort: Incumbent performs work from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms and where the parts, equipment, or systems are in hard-to-reach places. Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in a tiring and uncomfortable position. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Work may require working in poorly lighted, heated, or and ventilated areas. Majority of work may be performed outside subject to extremes of weather. When equipment is fixed in place, it is sometimes necessary to work in warehouse or industrial areas exposed to loud noises, heat or cold, fumes, etc. Incumbent is constantly exposed to the possibility of electrocution while working on floating plant and boats. Incumbent is also exposed to drowning while working on the boat. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of burns or engine crankcase explosion while working near engines and generators and less serious cuts and bruises. Incumbent is required to observe safety precautions wear appropriate safety equipment and work in the safe manner to prevent injury to self and other workmen and to prevent property damage. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. During the Revetment season, typically June through December, all Revetment employees, including this position, travel in various locations along the Mississippi River. The employees work 12 workdays on & have 2 days off. Employees will be on TDY & will lodge in hotels within the vicinity of the work area. During the work season this position works typically a 10-hour shift. During the non-Revetment season, the crew works at Ensley Engineer Yard, Memphis, TN, on either a 5-day/8-hour or 4-day/10-hr.
