Health First Hospice Aide - Aide Services in Melbourne, Florida
POSITION SUMMARY:
To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Service and Stewardship by assisting licensed personnel in providing direct nursing care under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Quality/No Harm:
- Provides care and respect to patients in a clean and safe environment.
- Demonstrates effective communication with other members of the health care team and promotes effective team functioning. Participates in IDT.
- May have access to IV solutions, authorized medications and supplies as needed for patient care responsibilities; only utilizes items which are on the assigned patients Hospice Aide Care Plan.
- Collects, records, and reports accurate patient information. Follows policy 93 for timely documentation submission.
- Delivers basic care to patients as directed in the plan of care.
- Assists other associates to maintain productivity.
- Demonstrates dependability, reliability and flexibility.
Stewardship:
- Uses are cares for equipment and supplies economically.
- Completes assigned tasks in a timely manner.
Customer Experience:
- Provides service to patients and families with sensitivity and respect for their needs, expectations, age, cultural and individual differences.
- Responds to call light in a timely manner, when assigned to work in the Hospice House.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Must hold current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain.
- Successful completion of Level II background screening.
- Must complete 12 hours yearly of education.
- Must hold and maintain a current Florida CNA certificate.
- Experience: Must meet unit-specific care requirements.
- Language: Must be able to speak/understand written and verbal instructions in the English language.
- Must maintain a valid Florida Driver’s license and car insurance.
- Must have reliable transportation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must have visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform clinical tasks.
- Must have corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Must be able to lift, turn, pull, push or ambulate patients/equipment up to 90% of the assigned shift.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted up to 33% of the assigned shift.
- Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop up to 90% of assigned shift.
- Potential for exposure to bio hazardous waste, and known or unknown diseases.
- Flexibility in work schedule to cover other areas of Hospice services (field, inpatient unit, respite/crisis care).
- Able to prepare simple meals and perform basic housekeeping tasks.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Basic understanding of Hospice philosophy – ability to work with terminally ill patients.
- Must have ability to work in often stressful environment with patients/families at various ages and levels of understanding.
- Must have ability to concentrate on multiple priority activities.
- Must have ability to respond appropriately to life threatening situations.
- Must have emotional stability to cope with loss and end of life issues frequently.
