Health First Health First at Home Paramedic - HRMC Hospital at Home, Per Diem in Melbourne, Florida

Position Summary The Hospital at Home Paramedic performs patient care under the direction of and as assigned by the charge nurse, registered nurse and/or physician or their designee. Performance in this care model utilizes continuous communication within the medical care team,either by radio/phone contact or direct consultation. The Paramedic delivers appropriate direct and indirect patient care in compliance with regulatory and department processes while promoting safety and efficiency within the home.

Primary Accountabilities:

  1. Initiates/completes technical equipment set-up for remote monitoring to assist RN in timely admissions. Detects changes in assessment and notifies medical care team of abnormalities.

  2. Initiates oxygen therapy set-up and/or application, to include nebulizer treatments, as directed by RN/MD.

  3. Inserts/discharges peripheral IV’s; administers IV fluids, oral and parenteral medications as directed by RN; including, but not limited to, observing and documenting condition of infusion site, medication delivery, and antibiotic administration (scheduled).

  4. Performs venipuncture for specimen collection and delivers to testing facility.

  5. Receives unmonitored patients at registered facility (campus) for diagnostic testing/procedure completion; prepares and transitions patient for transport home once admission has begun and destination address confirmed.

  6. Assists physician or RN with procedures and exams, applies/changes dressings/slings as directed. Follows CDC isolation guidelines, appropriately uses personal protective equipment (PPE), performs hand washing according to policy, and enforces safety regulations.

  7. Serves as a customer service champion proactively acknowledging and engaging patient/patient family/support involvement in care.

  8. Maintains work area cleanliness, cleans remote monitoring device kits for distribution, tests equipment prior to admission, and collaborates with device kit vendor to ensure kit maintenance.

  9. Is proactively involved in patient care planning and task completion to support care team and patient; available as directed for continued care needs including deliveries of supplies, meals, and/or medications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Education: Completion of a paramedic (EMT-P) program

· Certification:

o Current EMT-P State of Florida or National Registry Certification

o Current and must maintain:

§ American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)

§ AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

· Work Experience: Two (2) years of full-time paramedic experience in a pre-hospital system functioning at the paramedic level

· Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

o Basic computer skills including proficiency with MS Office and other applications related to role

o Ability to use critical thinking to prioritize

o Knowledge of regulatory requirements

o Ability to remain calm in a stressful environment

o Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of age groups and other members of the health care team

o Excellent customer service skills

o Ability to speak/understand written and verbal instructions in the English language

o Ability to promote effective team functioning.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Heavy

· Physically agile; requires walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching majority of the shift

· Heavy work that frequently includes lifting or moving objects up to 100 pounds or more with or without assistance

· May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or over head

· May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift

· May be exposed to inside environments and outside environments with extreme temperatures, air contamination, dirt, grease, or water

· May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC Guidelines.

· May operate various types of manual and motorized equipment used in the transportation of materials · May be exposed to intense noise or vibration and awkward or confined work position · Communicating with others to exchange information. · Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks · Workspace may vary from open to confined; on site or remote · May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle
