The Opportunity:
The project is responsible for delivering critical systems engineering, sustainment, and safety assurance solutions across complex communication and technology environments. It supports operational capabilities through the design, integration, and maintenance of advanced communication systems and platforms used in dynamic and highly regulated environments.
The Systems Engineer will play a key role in managing complex engineering activities related to safety compliance, systems certification, and hazard management. Reporting to the engineering lead, the role involves ensuring technical designs and systems comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices.
Operating with independence and technical expertise, the Systems Engineer will contribute to systems integration, safety certification, and risk assessment projects while collaborating with diverse stakeholders. The position requires a strong understanding of systems engineering processes, safety compliance, and risk management methodologies.
This is a full-time permanent position, based in Melbourne.
This position will require an active AGSVA NV1 clearance and the successful candidate must be willing to upgrade to an NV2.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct complex engineering tasks, including technical reviews, risk assessments, and compliance checks.
Develop, review, and update safety case reports, technical certifications, and hazard logs.
Provide technical advice on system safety, configuration management, and lifecycle integration.
Interpret and apply industry standards, policies, and regulatory frameworks to sustainment activities.
Build and maintain relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project delivery.
Create detailed technical reports, briefs, and recommendations for senior leadership.
Assess technical designs to ensure compliance with legislative, safety, and operational requirements.
Support the development and implementation of engineering changes and sustainment strategies.
Facilitate safety assurance processes and ensure adherence to systems engineering principles.
Required Qualifications, Experience and Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree in engineering in a relevant discipline.
Experience in tactical communication systems or RF/network/communication engineering.
Clear understanding of the defence capability lifecycle
Knowledge and experience in systems engineering, including safety assurance, configuration management, and risk management.
Ability to develop and manage technical and safety-related documentation, such as hazard logs and certification packages.
Strong stakeholder management skills, including experience working with suppliers, customers, and senior stakeholders.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and concisely.
