In this key role as Employee Relations Manager , reporting to our Senior Manager - People CS&L, you will provide in-house expertise on the full spectrum of Workplace Relations issues and ensuring the ER strategy enables business imperatives and initiatives.

This is an additional role to support the business with multiple sites, on an initial 12-month contract.

Some of the key accountabilities for this role will include (but are not limited to):

  • Improving productivity and efficiency through the creation, refinement, implementation and oversight of a strategy for the development of Enterprise Agreements;

  • Streamlining and standardize HR practices in compliance with internal policies, external laws and best practice;

  • Partner with the HR Business Partners and coach business managers to use a strategic and structured approach to problem solving to effectively manage contentious people issues and resolve employee / union grievances before they become litigious. Review disciplinary / termination processes and recommend outcomes;

  • Supporting Change Management processes by analyzing legal risk and ensuring proper consultation and communication process is followed;

  • Manage all formal documentation and process for voting on and lodgment of Enterprise Agreements;

  • Report to and consult with the Workplace Relations Steering Committee (including senior executives) on progress, key outcomes, strategy, risks and benefits relating to enterprise bargaining and employee relations;

  • Support the business to achieve a performance-driven and values-led culture, including meeting corporate standards of compliance and integrity through building awareness, understanding and investigations to enforce standards.

What you will bring:

  • At least 5-8 years’ experience in workplace relations or employment law, preferably working in FMCG;

  • Food manufacturing industry experience preferred.

  • Advocacy experience appearing in industrial tribunals/courts;

  • Experience in creating and implementing strategy for enterprise agreements, including direct negotiation experience;

  • Experience in investigating complaints (e.g. bullying, harassment, discrimination)

  • Strong experience dealing with unions in manufacturing industries;

  • Strong organisational skills overseeing multiple sites and consulting right across the business;

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal);

  • Strong advocacy skills to represent the company before courts/tribunals;

  • Strong legal drafting skills for contracts, policies, enterprise agreements and other documents);

  • Train HR in key areas of technical expertise changes in legislation, case summaries, best practice) through updates, presentations and interactive sessions;

  • Strong change management skills (e.g. Overseeing restructuring, policy changes, implementing agreement changes);

  • Dispute management and mediation skills;

  • Strong agreement negotiation skills.

A desire to drive your future and accelerate your career. You will bring experience and knowledge in:

  • Strong knowledge of the Federal and State legislation (and associated case law) applicable to workplace relations including areas such as unfair dismissal, general protections, discrimination, bullying, harassment, underpayment claims, enterprise agreements, industrial action, hours of work, union rights, employee entitlements and rights, etc.

  • Strong knowledge of Awards and Agreements covering employees in the Food and Manufacturing Industries as well as nuances of practices within these industries.

  • Excellent technical understanding of Australian legal system, judicial bodies, court rules and procedures and outcomes in case law relating to industrial relations and employment law.

Education/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Law (preferred)

  • Further education in related discipline preferred (e.g. degree in HR, Industrial / Organisational psychology, etc.)
