Shift Details 7a - 3p POSITION SUMMARY: The Adaptive Equipment Repair Technician maintains and repairs wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment and assists with selection and ordering of wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Evaluates and repairs wheelchairs and adaptive equipment upon request by inspecting and assessing equipment, determining and ordering replacements parts, troubleshooting, and ensuring repairs to all equipment are tested and complete Schedules and performs routine cleanings and maintenance checks on wheelchair and other adaptive equipment Orders and maintains adequate stock of necessary parts and repair materials, including but not limited to armrests, tires, wheels, walker skies, wheelchair breaks, etc. Organizes and maintains tools and workshop in clean and orderly fashion Inventories wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment and tools as requested Documents and maintains organized records of all repairs, cleanings, and maintenance checks Assists Physical Rehabilitation Supervisor during wheelchair clinic, brace clinic, shoe clinic, etc. with tasks including but not limited to assist individuals out of their chairs, stabilize for measurements for braces and shoes, transfer between equipment, etc. Provides or assists with providing in-services to Elwyn staff on use, care, and cleaning of wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment Communicates effectively with other Elwyn staff members with scheduling equipment and adaptive equipment cleanings, maintenance checks, and repair appointments, and entering residences to perform work duties, updating on repair status, etc. Interacts with clients appropriately and maintains client safety at all times with minimal disruption of their routines Updates Physical Rehabilitation Supervisor on status of assigned duties including but not limited to repair time estimates, completions, any needed follow up with nursing or other functional areas and disciplines, etc. Uses appropriate protective equipment when working Observes and enforces Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards of safety related to the workshop, equipment, chemicals, etc. Performs other duties as assigned CONTACTS: Elwyn staff, clients, families, funding sources, outside agencies, and therapists. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or equivalent Two (2) years of experience in mechanical repair Demonstrates ability to safely use variety of manual and power tools, including but not limited to drills, jigsaw, circular saw, drill press, industrial sewing machine, belt sander, bench grinder, etc. Experience with Intellectually disabled individuals Demonstrates ability to work effectively as part of a team Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage and prioritize multiple, often competing, priorities Demonstrated strong attention to detail Demonstrated strong time management and organizational skills Demonstrated good judgment with the ability to solve problems and make decisions in coordination with supervisor and within the scope of their position Demonstrated ability to anticipate future needed changes or identify problem areas and take effective actions Must be able to perform CPR and crisis intervention using agency-trained protocols Must possess good customer interaction, collaboration, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated basic experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Outlook Must have current, valid driver's license in state of residence, three (3) years driving experience, and acceptable driving record PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL PROFILE: See Physical Demands Checklist below which represents the general physical demands and environment conditions to which the employee holding this position must meet, in addition to the duties and responsibilities listed a ove, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
