Department Summary:

MITRE’s Treasury, Economics and Commerce Division (TEC), P813 Department supports multiple sponsors at the U.S. Department of Treasury, including at the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Treasury’s partners in the interagency, the private sector, the international community, academia, and non-governmental organizations. P813 work programs, initiatives, and advanced applied research efforts focus on securing US Currency, promoting economic statecraft, combatting illicit finance, supporting sanctions, optimizing the use of and mitigating risks with artificial intelligence, understanding economic dynamics and financial systems, supporting whole of nation strategic competition, financial regulation, development of digital asset and Decentralized Finance systems, protection of critical financial infrastructure, modernization of Information Technologies and advancing cybersecurity.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Primarily supporting the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the P813 Department is seeking a highly motivated Lead Systems Engineer to serve as a member of the P813 and TEC team, to work across TEC and the MITRE enterprise, and to support a diverse sponsor-directed set of interrelated projects. Day-to-day activities include leading US Currency security-related work, leading team and project tasks as needed, supporting project and domain leaders in ensuring quality and integrated results, and overall contributing to a variety of desired US currency outcomes and applying demonstrated expertise and systems engineering and systems design principles and concepts. Key roles and responsibilities, include:

  • Understand and apply system of systems (SoS) concepts to address enterprise-wide problems.

  • Partner with sponsors and develop plans to coordinate, harmonize, and integrate the efforts of organizations and individuals.

  • Coordinate the application of capabilities including strategic management, change management, process innovation, and transition implementation to achieve desired transformation outcomes for sponsors.

  • Apply business innovation approaches to develop or enhance business models, products, or services that meet changing mission needs.

  • Apply process improvement approaches to identify and address gaps that sponsors must address to reach desired outcomes.

  • Partner with sponsors to identify and map current and future state capabilities, processes, and functions of an organization informed by that organization’s strategy, people, and technology.

  • Apply program and project management disciplines internally after project and/or contract acquisition is completed such as decision support, contract monitoring, and risk management; project planning, analysis, monitoring, and control; risk management, quality management, and configuration management; and facilitate the development of artifacts such as charter, governance, communication and procurement plan, human resource management, and schedule.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • 2+ years of experience working with Quality Engineering, Quality Standards, or Quality Management, ideally in a production work environment.

  • Demonstrated skills in technical writing and presentation development

  • Experience leading tasks and/or projects

  • Experience coordinating client/customer working groups or agile teams

  • Ability to travel within CONUS for up to a week at a time and 4 trips per year

  • Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for BEP suitability

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BEP-High suitability

  • Understanding of the currency development lifecycle, banknote development processes, and banknote manufacturing operations

  • Experience coordinating the activities of government staff

  • Experience and demonstrated skills in briefing executive level sponsors

  • Experience in shaping new work
