Job/Position DescriptionCommunity Health Improvement Publ Hlth and Prevent Specialist IAs a Community Health Specialist, this position works to improve the lives of people through public health.The Community Health Improvement Public Health and Prevention Specialist will collaborate with local schools, health agencies, non-profit organizations, health advisory boards, and community coalitions on population-based health promotion activities. These activities will be directed toward improving access to healthcare, preventing child fatalities, childhood obesity, and adolescent pregnancy. The Community Health Specialist will be responsible for training the community in evidence-based health promotion and health education strategies that support healthier environments and encourage healthy behaviors and will actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.This position is headquartered in McAllen, Texas, may require up to 50% travel, and reports to the Community Health Improvement Manager for Regional and Local Health Operations (RLHO) Division. Promote and support local stakeholder prevention activities in the areas of child fatalities, childhood obesity, child safety adolescent pregnancy, and access to care. Provide consultation with staff and stakeholders on tobacco-related health promotion strategies. (25%) Assists in disseminating information on public health issues and health promotion programs. Coordinates training courses, and health education courses.(15%) Collects assessment data for use in planning intervention strategies, implementing intervention activities, and evaluating the effectiveness of public health services. Conducts local public health system assessments to determine compliance with state mandates, regulations, policies, and procedures. Assists in development of survey tools and collection of survey data. Develop and update resource guides and stakeholder listings. (10%) Coordinate, participate in, and may facilitate stakeholder planning meetings. Plans activities such as child passenger safety seat checkup events and inspection station, organizes materials and child passenger safety seats inventory and related supplies. Track and maintain meetings and activity schedules. Tracks inventory and identifies program material, equipment, and supplies needed.(10%) Prepare or assists in the preparation of administrative reports, studies, and specialized research projects.
