Description:

Our Manager of the Blood Bank at Loyola University Medical Center oversees, directs and implements all facets of Blood Bank laboratory testing and support functions. They design, monitor, and evaluate the overall quality of the total testing process. This includes specimen solicitation and receipt, test analysis, quality control; test reporting, blood product receipt/ storage/ utilization, allocation of financial and human resources including staff scheduling, competency, and supply ordering. The Manager of the Blood Bank prepares and maintains departmental budget, procedure manuals, and performance improvement reports.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Allocating equipment and supply resources to insure the efficient and effective operation of the section. A.) Prepares budgets and maintains monthly supply expenses within 5% of budget. Investigates budget variances in a timely manner. B.) Evaluates capital equipment purchases in collaboration with the section medical director.

  • Prepares capital requests as required to secure funding and evaluates the accuracy of capital budget assumptions.

  • Managing staffing resources in order to meet the needs of laboratory stakeholders. A.) Hires qualified employees to fill open positions. B.) Ensures that employees are properly trained and that the training is completely documented. C.) Applies LUHS human resource policies consistently and fairly. D.) Evaluates and documents employee performance according to LUHS policies. Provides regular feedback on employee performance. E.) Identifies, documents and resolves human resource issues within the section F.) Prepares, implements and monitors individual work improvement plans in order to improve employee performance. G.) Develops individuals for laboratory leadership

  • positions. H.) Facilitates monthly staff meetings and effectively communicates the LUHS vision and departmental goals.

  • Ensuring compliance with laboratory regulations and accreditation standards. A.) Maintains an awareness of current regulations and standards which effect operations within the section. B.) Identifies areas of risk and implements activities to reduce the risk to the health system. C.) Ensures that variances are documented, investigated and resolved. D.) Collaborates with the Medical/Technical Director, Technical Specialists and staff to develop and implement quality improvement projects. E.) Submits quarterly quality assurance reports which are representative of ongoing section quality activities for review by the Laboratory Quality Steering Committee.

  • Providing laboratory services that meet the needs of internal and external stakeholders. A.) Acts as a key contact person for nursing and medical personnel. B.) Serves as a resource for employee decision making. C.) Develops and implements strategies to improve stakeholder satisfaction. D.) Participates in intradepartmental meetings and task forces. Collaborating with the Medical/Technical Director on the implementation of new policies, procedures and equipment which support the vision of the department and the health system.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, or other Laboratory Sciences. Master's degree preferred.

  • 6-10 years of previous job-related experience

  • 5+ years of managerial experience

  • Certified Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, laboratory discipline specific or specialty certificate (ASCP or AMT)
