Description:

Provides orientation, technical supervision and ongoing training to the Echo Lab technical staff, in the performance of non-invasive cardiac ultrasound procedures for Adult and Pediatric Patients. Assists in the development of departmental policy and procedures including scanning and preliminary diagnostic interpretation protocols, according to the standards set by the American Society of Echocardiography, the American College of Cardiology, and the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiographic Laboratories. Participates in the performance of quality non-invasive cardiac ultrasound testing on patients from young adulthood to the geriatric age group, to maintain her technical expertise. Extensive knowledge of the principles of cardiac ultrasound is evidenced by registration from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

  • Provides technical expertise and mentoring to the cardiac ultrasound technical staff: a. Provides orientation, technical supervision and ongoing training in cardiac ultrasound to the Echo Lab technical and nursing staff to assure ASE and ICAEL standards are followed. b. Assists in the training of other members of the health care team (fellows, residents, etc.). c. In conjunction with the Manager of Cardiographics, responsible for the technical component of the Echo Lab Staff performanceappraisal,providinginputregardingthequalityoftheirworkandother critical behaviors. d.Interviews candidates for employment and validates their technical skills, screening those who do not meet LUHS standards and makes recommendations for hire. e. Serves as a technical resource to the Cardiology Department and Nursing by virtue of his/her clinical expertise.

  • Oversees the technical operation of the Echo Lab: a. Responsible for staffing assignments, patient scheduling, record keeping and other daily issues. b. Coordinates ICAEL and JCAHO reaccreditation projects on an ongoing basis. Responsible for staff involvement in on-going peer review, exam correlations, QI and other related activities. c. Performs an annual review of Echo Lab Policies, Procedures and Protocols to assure compliance with the latest ASE and ICAEL standards. d. Monitors technical staff compliance with Echo Lab protocols and requirements. e. Coordinates all echo related research and pilot projects. f. Delegates specific echo related responsibilities to Echo Staff, when warranted. g. Provides monthly Echo Lab staffing schedule, assuring that there is equitable rotationtoportables,thestresslabsandsatellites.h.Ensurestheoptimaloperation of cardiac ultrasound equipment through routinely scheduled preventive maintainance. i. Evaluates and provides technical input regarding the purchase of any Echo Lab equipment or software. j. Schedules monthly Echo Tech meetings, todiscusstechnicalissuesandprovideupdates.CoordinatesEchoLabQI Meetings with the Medical Director. Participates in the performance of echocardiographic studies, to maintain technical expertise and assist in staffing the lab on a weekly or as needed basis; relateddutiesasassigned.
