Naval Air Systems Command SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in Mayport, Florida

Summary You will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the FRCMA VRT DEPT, SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH BR of FLTREADCEN DET MID ATLANTIC PAX RIVER. Responsibilities You will collect information through record reviews, interviews, and on-site inspection to address environmental issues or concerns. You will Identify mishap causes and hazards to implement remedial measures. You will Interpret laws, regulations, or policies to provide guidance to managers or program officials. You will advise personnel on environmental issues to promote compliance with environmental protection procedures. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following duties: 1) Applying knowledge of various safety and occupational health regulations, procedures, practices, and standards; 2) Interpreting and applying basic Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) standards to unsafe acts and conditions characteristic of shop and shipboard environments; 3) Evaluating various types of personal protective equipment (PPE) and researching alternative forms of PPE; 4) Conducting OSH inspections to identify unsafe practices and working conditions and recommend measures to remedy or correct hazards; 5) Utilizing job-relevant information systems and/or software applications, such as Excel, Microsoft Office Applications and ESAMS, necessary for entering and tracking program inspections, Job Hazard Analyses, Mishap Investigations, Medical Surveillance, and Training.
