Hillcrest Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides the highest quality care for patients with complex acute and chronic health issues. This unit's patient population includes adults with diagnoses/diseases in a variety of areas, such as trauma, high-risk obstetrics, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, sepsis, GI bleed, COPD, stroke, and more. Both the patient and the family are encouraged to participate in the interdisciplinary plan of care to achieve healthy outcomes that include a return to health or provide comfort and support at the end of life.

A caregiver in this position works 6:30pm - 7:00am.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.

  • Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.

  • Assist with keeping patients' rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • A high school diploma or GED.

  • Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).

  • One year of recent, full-time patient care experience OR nursing student who has completed at least one clinical rotation as part of an accredited nursing school program OR military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1).

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it during your new hire period.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force rarely, and/or 0 to 50 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
