As a Clinical Laser Nurse, you will operate lasers for surgical procedures and ensure a laser-safe environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Functions as a laser operator for surgical procedures; provides technical expertise in machine operation of each wavelength and assures staff as well as patient of a laser-safe environment.

  • Ensures efficient coordination of daily laser surgery scheduling operations and adequate staffing.

  • Monitors care of equipment and ordering of supplies.

  • Explains/interprets standards related to specialty area, maintains/updates surgeon preference cards.

  • Monitors scheduling of laser procedures and advance technology procedures and maintains adherence to Quality Standards/Indicators.

  • Utilizes knowledge of all laser equipment and supplies.

  • Assists in developing guidelines and criteria for patients having laser and advance technology procedures.

  • Works collaboratively with staff to provide necessary equipment, supplies and nursing skills to assure optimum patient care results.

  • Assumes circulating and scrub nurse responsibilities as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.

  • Completion of an accredited laser training course and laser safety course.

Certifications:

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA).

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • Two years of OR experience preferred.

  • Previous experience in the use of lasers required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.

  • Required standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.

  • Requires some exposure to communicable disease of bodily fluids.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
