Job Title: Phlebotomist IJob Description
As a Phlebotomist I, you will assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. You will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, explaining the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously, and ensuring the integrity of all specimens.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate as required.
Update patient information and collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Properly explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections in a clear and courteous manner.
Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
Fully understand all physicians' orders and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.
Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens for transport and store specimen samples according to the required temperature.
Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes, accurately label them, and follow different procedures as outlined by specific protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

2 years of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Work Environment
This position is based in a physician's office with a shift from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. The work environment is fast-paced and requires adherence to specific procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens. The office is located at 830 Amherst Rd NE, Massillon, OH.
