Howmet Aerospace Operations Supervisor in Martinsville, Virginia

Howmet Structure Systems has an immediate opening for a Production Supervisor at our Martinsville facility.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

This supervisory position will manage a group of hourly production employees and oversee various functions in the Forge and Grind Shop. Department consists of a five-person team operating large equipment to include a 5,000-ton forging press, conditioning grinder, large gas fired production furnaces, production saw, remote controlled overhead cranes and mobile manipulator material handling machines. Potential hazards include proximity of moving machinery, high temperatures and noise. PPE includes appropriate clothing (FR9), safety glasses, hard hat, and steel toed boots with metatarsal protection, hearing protection, and other safety equipment as required all provided by the company.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance of Environmental, Health, and Safety programs by employees and contractors working during the shift.

  • Complete documentation as required for EHS programs.

  • Responsible for directing, organizing and planning all day-to-day aspects of production in the Forge and Grind Shop.

  • Coordinate all projects related to the production process; primarily the process of forging and grinding of titanium.

  • Will work closely with Product Manager to ensure timely and efficient operation of the department.

  • Will lead and supervise a crew of hourly production employees.

  • Will be the primary management representative on the shift and will problem solve and advise maintenance employees when needed.

​Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required.

  • Must have a minimum of one year of manufacturing supervisory experience.

  • Must be available to work all shifts and weekends / holidays as required.

  • Must be safety conscious and believe that “Safety is a Core Value”.

  • Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience.

  • Must have good communication and employee relations skills.

  • Basic computer skills in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. SAP knowledge a plus.

  • Metal forging experience a plus.

  • Knowledge of OHSA & other regulatory agencies directives.

  • Manufacturing background is preferred.

  • Should have experience evaluating and coaching employees to their full potential.
