Material Handler / Shipping

Location: Martinsville, VA

Shift: Weekend Shift (6:00 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.)

Days: Friday, Saturday & Sunday

Starting pay is $16.75 per hour and will increase to $19.00 per hour after 12 months.

General Job Description:

Putting cartons on pallet according to orders.

  • Scan cartons and pallet ID

  • Sorting carton according to position

  • Take pallet to appropriate staging area

  • Initial top of carton

  • Obtain pallet from staging area

  • Floor loading trailers by hand

To follow at all times company safety rules, ergonomic procedures, packing and carton erector guidelines. To be retrained in these areas when requirements have been modified or updated.

To be cross trained and perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

Start your career with a premiere employer and be trained on the job by one of our experienced employees.

High school diploma or equivalent education is preferred, but not required.

One year of experience is preferred, but not required.

Knowledge and Application:

Basic level of education will be required; reading, writing, and basic numeracy •Required to follow simple instructions •No formal occupational training required

Problem Solving:

  • Problems encountered will be defined, repetitive, and routine with a solution readily available * All nonstandard problems will be referred to supervisor or more experienced incumbent* Solutions are obvious or there are a finite number of clear-cut alternatives* Solutions can be reached and applied immediately

Interaction:

  • Interaction with others is limited to own team with little requirement for internal or external contact* Basic numeracy and literacy skills required* Displays common courtesy and politeness and uses basic verbal skills

Impact:

  • Supports the achievement of goals through personal effort in own work area* Impact will be limited to the delivery of own work tasks which will be managed on a day-to-day or task-by-task basis*

Accountability:

  • Accountable for delivery of own tasks to agreed time and quality standards*

Physical Requirements:

  • Constant lifting boxes that weight 45 lbs. and lifting wooden pallets

  • Constant bending, pulling, and pushing boxes

  • Constant walking

  • Occasional pushing pallets with pallet jack

  • Constant grasping boxes to stock them on pallets

  • Operating fork truck/ walkie rider
