If yes, DuPont’s Avon MECS Inc. site is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and driven professional to join our Martinez, CA catalyst manufacturing team as an Operations Area Manager I . The plant is dedicated to the production of sulfuric acid catalyst (24/7 operation), with onsite resources totaling <40 individuals. This site is part of DuPont’s Clean Technologies Business Unit.
The Operations Manager reports to the Avon Plant Manager and is a key member of the site leadership team. This individual will be accountable for the direct day-to-day leadership and management of the plant’s operating teams and 24-7 manufacturing process. This position requires occasional evenings and weekend work to support emergencies, non-routine work, and plant turnarounds. The primary function of this role is development of the operations team towards a highly empowered, interdependent state.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:
Drive operational discipline and set expectations/standards to increase the performance and accountability of individuals and teams.
Coach and develop teams and individuals. Spend a significant amount of time in the field with operating teams communicating, coaching, and facilitating problem solving and improvement work. Requires some early morning and evening work.
Oversee execution of the manufacturing schedule to meet customer needs.
Collaborate cross functionally to ensure effective, efficient planning and execution of maintenance and engineering projects.
Create communication channels and processes to ensure information is transparent and available to operating teams.
Drive high housekeeping standards; collaborate with teams/peers to implement 5S.
Utilize lean, continuous improvement tools with teams and peers to drive performance improvements in uptime, productivity, quality, and other key performance indicators.
Owner for manufacturing operating procedures and oversee implementation and execution of skill-based training programs.
Core member of Site Safety and Process Safety Management (PSM) Committees. PSM lead for one or more PSM elements or SHE processes.
Create a safe, reliable operating environment and deliver strong operations core value performance (safety and health, respect for people, highest ethical behavior, and protecting the planet).
Lead incident investigations to determine root cause and appropriate corrective action(s) for SHE, PSM, process, or quality incidents within area of responsibility.
Collaborate with plant staff to create a disciplined continuous improvement culture that utilizes waste elimination tools and the continuous improvement triangle (visual performance management, performance dialogue, and problem solving) to improve performance of the site’s manufacturing operation.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business management or related field with 7+ years of relevant experience in which 3 years are in an operations environment.
10+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree in which 3 years are in an operations environment.
Strong leadership skills and well experienced in training, coaching, mentoring and collaborating with others.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and experienced in cross-functional team building.
Strong project management, organization, and prioritization skills.
Strong data management and analytical skills.
Good understanding of HR principles and practices.
Strong knowledge of Safety and PSM systems.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* At minimum, individual must have the ability and/or interest to develop in these areas
Line leadership experience.
Functional and/or project leadership experience is a plus.
Understanding and or experience with skill-based training systems and high-performance work systems.
Knowledge of specific California regulations.
