Emerson Project Portfolio Lead in Marshalltown, Iowa

Our Project Management team plays a meaningful role in ensuring project governance across the IT Global project portfolio, enabling seamless execution and high performance. By developing and implementing a robust framework of best practices, tools, and capabilities, we ensure consistency across the entire project lifecycle—from initiation and definition to execution and closeout. As a leader in project portfolio management, this role provides oversight of a global IT project portfolio, ensuring strategic alignment and effective decision-making across projects, programs, and operations. Responsibilities include leading project methodologies, financial reporting, and sourcing/procurement of resources and technology.

This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with IT Leadership, WA IT Leads, program managers, project managers, external partners, and team members across Emerson IT and the broader business. Together, we’ll shape key IT initiatives, improve processes, and drive impactful results.

IN THIS ROLE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:

  • Lead the IT Program Management Office (PMO) and assist with the global portfolio of projects and initiatives through strategy, prioritization, scoping, risk analysis, scheduling, financial analysis, resource allocation, and change management

  • Lead all aspects of project related sourcing activities under the Emerson IT VMO guidance and support, including facilitating IT contracting from negotiation through execution and completion

  • Coordinate with IT BA's, Scrum Masters, Program Mangers, and other Project Managers in support of project development

  • Facilitate IT project financial forecasts. Generate alignment and consensus about financial decisions within IT and Finance

  • Design and implement IT Balanced Scorecards/dashboards to report on portfolio, projects, operations, vendors, financial and talent health of the organization on monthly, quarterly, yearly basis

  • Develop and refine PMO processes: Oversee practices of developing and implementing project thru initiate, define, execution and closeout phase. Accurately documenting the project's creation, development, and execution as well as documenting the project's scope, budget, and justification

  • Regularly reviews and evaluates opportunities to improve the project management standard processes to achieve higher maturity in PMO Organization/Portfolio-Wide Reporting

FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience in lieu of degree

  • 2 years minimum Project Management experience

  • Legal Authorization to work in the United States – sponsorship will not be provided for this role

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU APART:

  • PMI or Agile certifications

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Experience with full lifecycle development and various methodologies, including (but not limited to) ITIL, Stage Gate, Six Sigma, Lean, Agile

  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Project, or other project management tools like Azure DevOps

  • Good understanding of change management including configuration, control and approval by a Change Advisory Board

  • Experience with an IT Service Management Tool like ServiceNow
