This position will work from a home or DLI office. This position exists to supervise and direct staff performing electrical inspections in the following counties:

Koochiching, St. Louis, Itasca, Lake, Cook, and Carlton.

The individual will manage external relations with other state and federal agencies, industry related organizations, and municipal officials and regulators. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

· Licensed by the State of Minnesota as one of the following: Class A Master Electrician, or Class A Journeyworker Electrician.

· Five (5) years of experience in performing electrical inspections to determine compliance with statutes, rules and codes that are within the authority of the Department.

· Demonstrated leadership experience* sufficient to effectively supervise and direct the work of assigned staff. Demonstrated leadership should include the following:

o Coaching, mentoring, and/or developing staff while building relationships.

o Leading teams to meet the organization's expectations for productivity, quality, or goal accomplishment.

*Demonstrated leadership experience may include any of the following:

· Experience as a supervisor, team lead, lead worker

· Completion of a State leadership development program, such as Emerging Leaders Institute (ELI) or Senior Leadership Institute (SLI)

· Completion of a similar or equivalent leadership development program through another organization

· A paid or unpaid position leading a program or chairing a committee, such as an Employee Resource Group (ERG). This experience must also include:

§ 1+ years of identifying issues, goals, and strategic actions

§ 100+ hours per year time commitment see above

· Knowledge of the Minnesota Electrical Act; and Minnesota Rules, regulations and standards regarding electrical safety, electrical inspections, and electrical licensing of electricians sufficient to enforce their provisions.

· Knowledge and application related to electrical theory and the National Electrical Code.

· Knowledge and understanding of electrical drawings, specifications, construction, including the practical use and application of materials, equipment, and tools.

· Working knowledge of building and various other construction codes related to electrical installations.

· Demonstrated human relations skills sufficient to motivate staff to accomplish work goals; to build constructive relationships with state agencies, local government, and the design and construction industries.

· Ability to relate and communicate effectively with individuals who do not share the same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Language skills other than English (such as Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL).

  • Five Years’ experience as a MN licensed Class A Master Electrician.
