Boiler Process Operator - Marshall, MN

Under limited supervision, operates facility’s equipment such as boilers, auxiliary equipment, cooling towers, air compressor systems, reclaim water systems, and MVR’s

Essential Job Functions:

  • Possess a strong knowledge of the production processes areas.

  • Control and maintain plant evaporation capacity to control plant water levels.

  • Preform scheduled cleaning on evaporators.

  • Monitor department equipment to insure an adequate amount of steam is produced in the operation process.

  • Work closely with other operators in various departments by communicating and coordinating tasks.

  • Collect and test all required water samples then effectively uses the results to make changes to maintain plant efficiency.

  • Perform the initial inspection and preventative maintenance on all auxiliary equipment and notify the utility supervisor if major maintenance is required.

  • Monitor the continuous emissions monitor to ensure constant compliance within state regulations and adjust equipment to stay within state and federal guidelines.

  • Complete daily data entry pertaining to shift activities into the department computer.

  • Adjust the chemical concentrate in the department equipment ensuring the proper levels and concentration are maintained at all times.

  • Troubleshoot process upsets and effectively develop cost effective solutions.

  • Assist in training to help colleagues develop a high level of skills and job proficiency.

  • Perform duties in a safe manner, utilizing all approved safety equipment, and successfully completes all safety certification requirements.

  • May perform reasonably similar or related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred).

  • Obtains and maintains a valid Class 1A Grade license and continually works towards the achievement of knowledge of boiler operations.

  • Complete all required safety training; also follow and display knowledge of all safety procedures.

  • Have a general understanding of how to use a computer and email.

  • Communicate effectively through speech and writing along with other mediums such as email.

  • Must stay motivated and show initiative to complete tasks under limited supervision.

  • Display quality work through strong attention to detail.

  • Work overtime as necessary, including some weekends.

  • Work with a team orientation by coordinating efforts with colleagues to complete tasks effectively.

  • Meet requests of supervision including but not limited to the essential functions listed.

  • Utilize all equipment such as DCS panel, computer, process equipment, laboratory testing equipment, forklifts, hand tools, or any other equipment for its created purpose.

  • Meet physical requirements and perform duties in working conditions listed below.

Working Conditions:​​​​​​​

  • Rotating Shift- average of 40 hours a week

  • Duties performed inside and outside

  • May be exposed to extreme temperatures and humid conditions

  • Atmosphere exposure: fumes, odors, dust, and poor ventilation.

  • Hazard exposure: mechanical, electrical, chemical, and heat.

  • Protective Clothing Required: Hardhat, earplugs, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes/ boots, gloves, face mask, chemical suits, chemical gloves, and face shields.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to ascend/ descend many flights of stairs or ladders.

  • Move or lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Lifting may consist of: dragging or carrying hoses, carrying pails or barrels.

  • Position self to conduct work at various heights and positions.

  • Be on feet walking/ moving around majority of typical work day.

  • Repetitive use of feet through occasional operation of forklift/ skid loader.

  • Speech, vision, smell, touch, and hearing all needed senses to communicate effectively, recognize process upsets, and identify possible safety threats.
