Covenant HealthCare US:MI:SAGINAW VARIABLE SHIFT FULL TIME BENEFITEDSummary: The Medical Physicist works closely with the radiation oncologists, director and department manager to ensure the highest standards of physics services. This includes, but is not limited to, the overview and quality control of all treatment calculations for treatment; consultation with radiation oncologists and other physician specialties concerning radiation therapy planning; supervision of, and consultation with, the physicists and dosimetrists on computer treatment planning and any associated dosimetry; determination of the radiation output of all radiation therapy treatment units, and all other duties as they relate to the operation of radiation within the Radiation Oncology departments. Additionally, each medical physicist leads a key area of radiation and supports the health system and strengthens the radiation department. The three key areas of radiation include: Education and Training, Technology and Planning and Radiation Safety. The Physicist demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation. Responsibilities: Oversees all aspects of radiation oncology treatment planning and dosimetry, including indirect supervision of the medical dosimetrists. Provides medical physics services in accordance with the highest standards of practices as required by HFAP, NRC, State of MI, OSHA and other regulatory bodies. Performs the duties and responsibilities of a medical dosimetrist when necessary. Contributes to the development of students in the department and is responsible for teaching and completing radiation therapy student competencies. Completes proper documentation in EMR and department documentation. Utilizes site specific office management system for scheduling and billing. Responsible for commissioning and acceptance of new radiation oncology equipment. Provides for the age specific needs of the population served according to department standards and policies/procedures as evidenced by observation, documentation and peer feedback. Develops and oversees internship and residency opportunities for physicist and dosimetry students, precept students, develop and implement continuing education programs for radiation staff and plan and facilitate regular treatment planning rounds with physicists, dosimetrists and students. Speaks to community groups and students as requested regarding the use of radiation for the treatment of cancer. Researches radiation technologies that are available, works with managers and physicians to recommend what technology should be pursued for each radiation site, completes ROI and presentations for consideration by finance and CEOs for their review and approval and then leads and implements any approved technology projects. Act as the Radiation Safety Officer for Covenant Healthcare, which includes constant surveillance of NRC and other regulatory body rules and development of policies and procedures for compliance. In addition, monitors all radiation equipment and exposure badges and report to the Radiation Safety Committee on a regular basis. Goal is for zero variances and reportable events. Other duties as assigned.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Master's Degree in Medical Physics. Certification or eligible for certification by the American Board of Radiology in Radiological Physics or Therapeutic Radiology Physics, or comparable certification by the American College of Medical Physics. BLS-CPR certified.
