The Human Factors Engineering (HFE) Analysis Manager will provide leadership to a diverse technical team of dedicated engineers and scientists responsible for the design and procurement of equipment and technical services in support of New Nuclear Plant Projects and Nuclear Service Projects. This is a leadership position that manages applied engineering design efforts associated with Human Factors Engineering activities, is involved in the long-term planning and contributes to the overall strategy of the business.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

As the Human Factors Engineering (HFE) Analysis Manager, you will:

  • Report to the Senior Manager of Plant Integration and interact with other cross-discipline engineering managers and business/project leaders.

  • Have ownership and accountability from initial requirement setting and conceptual engineering through final design and construction and plant turnover to the customer. Manage the interfaces with partners and suppliers in support of the GEH Nuclear portfolio.

  • Work collaboratively both internally and externally with a global team of partner organizations and suppliers to successfully deliver Nuclear New Plant Projects and Nuclear Service Projects for GE Hitachi Nuclear.

  • Leads the technical team responsible for the HFE analysis activities including Operating Experience, Allocation of Function, Task Analysis, Safety Analysis Staffing Analysis, Human Performance Monitoring, and Licensing support, with secondary responsibilities to conjoined design activities in Human-System Interface Design, Procedure Development, Design Implementation, and Verification & Validation along with other HFE related activities as required.

  • Provide technical and managerial leadership for a diverse team being accountable for on-time delivery of design products within budget.

  • Inspire, hire, coach and ensure the development of the teams technical and leadership talent/depth.

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationship with other internal engineering team managers, business leaders, project managers and stakeholders.

  • Interface with external partners, customers, and other applicable country specific regulatory agencies, as required on technical issues.

  • Provide leadership supporting performance and program management of assigned work and ensure on-time fulfillment of engineering commitments in accordance with contract requirements, business procedures, industry standards and regulatory agency guidelines.

  • Plan, organize and manage the delivery of technical activities/tasks in support of engineering deliverables.

  • Drive the design development in advanced simulated assisted engineering tools and maintain required system design documents in accordance the program/project software requirements.

  • Provide guidance and manage external resources to ensure the quality of deliverables, enable flexibility and improved cost positions.

  • Support commercial and marketing opportunities to develop new business opportunities.

  • Protect the Intellectual Property rights of GEH.

  • Support GEH initiatives, process improvement and simplification.

  • Support GEH Nuclear Energy quality requirements, including participation in design reviews, initiating Condition Reports, and responding to Corrective Actions.

  • Ensure adherence to GEH’s standards for nuclear safety and compliance.

  • Streamline, integrate and develop team technical information sharing processes across GEH and its partners to better support business through application of Lean principles.

  • Partner with business teams and present product/program strategies, technical roadmaps, risks, and recommendations to senior leads across GEH.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Human Factors or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent 4-year degree in a related technical discipline.

  • At least 15 years of progressive experience in engineering design and/or project leadership experience.

  • At least 8 years of experience in the nuclear industry or equivalent large scale new build experience in the power industry.

Eligibility Requirements

  • This position will require someone working onsite 2 days a week in Markham, ON.

Desired Characteristics

  • Licensed Professional Engineer.

  • Working Experience related to the human factors’ aspects of human-computer interfaces for Nuclear Facilities.

  • Working experience within the context of large-scale human-machine systems (for example, process control): design, development, ergonomics, and test and evaluation.

  • Proven ability to be a liaison between organizations that are operating in separate geographic locations.

  • High performing individual with demonstrated ability to deliver results while exhibiting behaviors that promote strong team performance.

  • Proven interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to think strategically, be creative and move quickly.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of highly experienced engineers and balance multiple demands and priorities.

  • High performing energetic leader with demonstrated ability to deliver results while exhibiting behaviors that promote strong team performance.

  • Experience with project management skillset (communication, risk, planning/scheduling, change management).

  • EPC experience and knowledge; specifically, power plant.

  • Understanding of nuclear industry and technology.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business.
