Professional certified coaches hired by the Marion Central School Board of Education.

Job Goal:

To administer the Interscholastic Athletic programs at Marion Central School.

Responsibilities:

  • The Athletic Director (AD) is responsible for the conduct and promotion of Interscholastic Athletic Programming. The AD has the responsibility for providing effective organization and supervision of the Interscholastic Athletic Programming, seeks to develop an effective coaching staff whose primary concern is the welfare of students and works cooperatively with all staff.

  • The AD shall recommend all available coaching positions.

  • The AD shall notify the approved persons of their appointments to coaching positions.

  • All coaches are directly responsible to the AD.

  • The AD will evaluate and recommend all Marion Central School District coaches, annually, per season.

  • The AD is directly responsible to the Superintendent of Schools

  • The coaches, in cooperation with the AD, will enforce the Code of Conduct, approved rules and discipline policies for all sports. The coaches and AD shall annually review and update these policies, submitting any recommendation for changes to the Superintendent of Schools, who will, upon his/her recommendation, present them to the Board of Education.

  • The AD, with staff assistance, will prepare recommendations for an annual budget request for all phases, equipment, supplies and other services (repair, physical exams, etc.) of Athletic programs in the District and present these recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools.

  • The AD shall do all scheduling, cancelation and rescheduling related to athletic events including:

  • All interscholastic games and scrimmages,

  • Officials when necessary,

  • Gym and/or field usage for all teams,

  • Scheduling supervisors and other support people (timers, shot clock, scorers, etc) for athletic events.

  • Transportation arrangements and bus departure times will be the responsibility of the AD.

  • The AD must attend all Wayne Finger Lakes Athletic Director and Section V meetings and other meetings as required involving athletics.

  • The AD shall ensure compliance with all rules and regulations pertaining to athletics which are set by the administration, Board of Education, New York State Public High School Athletic Association, the New York State Education Department, and as required by Title IX guidelines.

  • The AD shall:

  • Provide an annual inventory of all athletic equipment and uniforms;

  • Coordinate the planning, selection, purchasing of equipment to facilitate the development of a balanced interscholastic program;

  • Establish guidelines and procedures for student safety and Facility Sign-out System;

  • Write formal proposals if dropping or adding sports, for consideration by the Superintendent of Schools and the Board of Education;

  • Provide comprehensive parent communication for all needed aspects of the Athletic Program;

  • Provide for onboarding new coaches as well as training and mentoring;

  • Coordinate/Submit work requests to the Maintenance Department throughout the Athletic Season.

  • The AD will carry out the following duties as they pertain to the position:

  • Physicals and obtaining medical clearances from the school nurse

  • Selective classifications;

  • Academic eligibility (with building principals);

  • Letter awards, arrangements, etc. for Sports Awards Program, scholarships, scholar athletic programs and the Athletic Banquet;

  • Coaching certification for coaching personnel;

  • Athletic eligibility following New York and local rules of participation.

  • Carry out any other assigned duties and/or responsibilities, which may be deemed appropriate by the Superintendent of Schools and Board of Education.
