Bureau of Naval Personnel SIGN PAINTER SUPERVISOR in Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California

Summary You will serve as a SIGN PAINTER SUPERVISOR in the Navy Personnel Command (NAVPERSCOM) Corrections and Programs Office (PERS-00D) of NAVAL CONSOLIDATED BRIG MIRAMAR. Responsibilities You will serve as the training coordinator for the graphic design apprenticeship program. You will design, lay out and decorate signs, execute freehand and mechanical lettering, perform silkscreen printing and apply reflective sheeting and lettering w/machines. You will organize staffs, leads, and control a vocational workshop in a corrections environment. You will prepare and manage work projects and assignments, schedules shifts and sequences of operations, and assign prisoners signs making, sign painting and related task. You will ensure all staff and prisoners adhere to safety standards, command policies and procedures. You will operate and supervise the operation of computers and software supporting the graphical design of products and training requirement of a Sign Shop. You will determine the steps required and complete projects using standard trade practices. The Screen-out Element for this position is ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE others: Instructing and supervising post-trial a diverse group of people, (e.g., prisoners), in duties to include but not limited to, producing signs and posters; decorating models and displays; or performing other functions requiring skill in lettering and graphic arts; Training, supervising and evaluating a diverse group of people, (e.g., prisoners), working under instruction; Instructing post-trial individuals, (e.g., prisoners), in the use of hardware and software commensurate with graphic design industry standards); Operating industry standard software which support graphic design. Performance Level (FPL) and if determined to be Best Qualified at the FPL, and selected, must be placed at the FPL. A BQ military spouse possesses knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies comparable to others who meet the competitive referral criteria for the specific position. PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation. Preference applicants will be placed at the highest grade for which they have applied and are determined Best Qualified (BQ).
