Description
Job Title: Metrology Inspection Specialist
The Metrology Inspection Team specializes in full dimensional measurement capabilities from our CMM (Coordinate Measurement Machine) , CT (computed tomography), and laser scanning labs along with on-site metrology programming and support. The Metrology Inspection Specialist will perform in-lab and on-site dimensional inspections, on-site programming, offline programming as well as training on dimensional inspection equipment which includes but is not limited to CMM’s, CT, laser scanning and vision systems.
Responsibilities:
Operate and program Hexagon Coordinate Measurement Machines, using PC-DMIS.
Perform detailed inspections on initial production parts ("first article inspections") to analyze dimensions against design specifications, including detailed layouts, comparing parts to each other, and comparing parts to the CAD model.
Complete on-site services including programming Coordinate Measuring Machines for clients and utilizing a portable FARO arm for dimensional inspections.
The metrology inspection specialist will perform in-lab and on-site dimensional inspections, on-site programming, and offline programming of dimensional inspection equipment.
Coordinate and implement training for offsite on location training and programming for CMM’s, FARO and general dimensional inspections.
Communicate directly with clients to identify service requirements and prepare quotations.
Review and interpret engineering drawings.
Create and prepare dimensional inspection reports.
Mentor and assist peers in programming activities.
Required Experience and Skills:
5 years working experience as a Metrology Technician or similar role
Proven experience programming in PC-DMIS with CMM’s
Expert knowledge of metrology software such as PC-DMIS, PolyWorks, Volume Graphics, and Calypso
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Experience with portable or articulated arm CMM equipment, such as Hexagon and FARO arm
Extensive knowledge of first article inspections, dimensional analysis and CAD comparisons
Deep knowledge and understanding of CT, CMM, and laser scanning operation
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively interface with all levels of internal personnel and clients
High school diploma or equivalent education required
Hexagon training certifications preferred
Additional requirements:
Ability and willingness to work 40-hours per week (and overtime as needed) to meet client requirements
Must have the ability and willingness to travel including flights and/or driving to client sites up to 70% of time
Access to personal cell phone with data plan for connection to company email and multi-factor authentication
Clean driving record and valid driver’s license
Ability to lift 60 pounds
