Job Description
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible to coordinate incoming communications and other activities to support Security personnel and other members of the University in the interest of safety.
This position receives emergency and non-emergency calls for service requiring the incumbent to have the ability to remain calm in an atmosphere of changing priorities and periods of high stress. This position dispatches, monitors, and responds to security personnel and other university personnel (Facilities, Finance and Administration, Residential Life, Athletics, and other departments), operates computer aided dispatch and records management system, operates the State Allied Radio Matrix for Emergency Response (ARMER) radio system, operates emergency paging software, trains new personnel, operates internal security systems and alarms (telephone, communications and life safety alarms, devices and systems), monitors and operates university surveillance systems, electronic security, and provides direction to all Communications Unit student employees, provides primary technical lead-worker direction to Student Paraprofessional Communications Officers; conducts on-the-job training to student and paraprofessional employees; assists with the classroom training of same.
This position has been designated as weather and emergency essential. In the event of a University closure or emergency event, incumbent is required to report to work and respond as requested. Minimum Qualifications
Two years of clerical, customer service or client service experience requiring frequent public contact along with one of the following: dispatching or security experience; OR experience with multi-line phone systems; OR experience working with criminal justice databases.
The above experience must be clearly stated within your resume.
Flexible to work nights, weekends, and holidays as determined by the appointing authority and guidelines set forth between the State of Minnesota and the representing Union.
A high school diploma, basic computer skills, and clear criminal background.
Preferred Qualification
Associates or Bachelors Degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, or other related field.
Experience in a call center or law enforcement dispatch center.
Knowledge of standard security or law enforcement communication practices, and basic principles of two-way radio communications theory.
Possess strong public speaking ability, and above average communications skills of the English l language, both verbal and written.
Demonstrates commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.

This position requires a passing background check under Minnesota Statutes 299C.60 to 299C.64 – Minnesota Child Protection Background Check Act.
