The purpose of this position is to maintain and repair mechanical and environmental systems associated with emergency communication tower site shelters and grounds, including commercial HVAC systems and emergency generator systems. This position also includes work involving the emergency generator repair, snow removal and grounds maintenance at tower site locations. This position is essential to the maintenance and immediate repair of critical communications support equipment for law enforcement, fire protection, emergency medical providers, and other emergency services.
Job Duties: Examples of work for this specific vacancy include but are not limited to :
• Operate, repair, and maintain all heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment on state radio communication buildings in order to maintain a climate-controlled environment in regard to temperature, ventilation, and humidity.
•Perform journey-level mechanical and mill wright work to all air handling systems
•Perform routine maintenance and repair of electrical components associated with HVAC equipment such as electrical motors, motor starters, and safety and control switches with low to 24 volts.
•Comply with MPCA and EPA regulations for refrigerant handling and recovery procedures.
•Maintain and repair emergency power generators so that they are available 24/7 when needed. Immediate repairs to essential power systems as required for emergency communication support.
•Maintain tower sites and assist with tower site development, including shelter repairs, pesticide/herbicide application, fencing and grounding repairs.
•Perform as a general building maintenance team member and troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, install and maintain building systems and components.
Minimum Qualifications

Two or more years of journey-level refrigeration mechanic experience in the maintenance and repair of major air conditioning and refrigeration systems, e.g., central air conditioning, window air conditioners, HVAC, and commercial refrigeration.
Universal EPA Certification for Handling of Refrigerants.
Requires a Class D Driver's License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver's license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers if the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
NOTE: Appliance or home refrigerator repair will not meet the minimum standard.
Preferred Qualifications
Know/edge/training in Building Automation Controls.
Diploma or degree in HVAC/Refrigeration from a vocational-technical training program.
Experience in emergency generator engine maintenance and repair.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work in a variety of areas throughout the complex, and in some cases, with a wide variety of tools (both power and hand). The employee frequently uses gross and fine dexterity in a variety of positions including reaching outward, and overhead, bending, working with outstretched arms and/or while lying on the back, working from heights, and bending over. The employee works in unusual positions and locations including on a lift 30 feet in height, on ladders and scaffolding, ditches and trenches, and behind and around other equipment, and obstacles. The employee works with power tools, machinery/instruments and equipment, up to 50 pounds and rarely up to 100 pounds. Loads over 100 pounds are lifted occasionally, but with the aid of lifting devices and coworkers. Fine dexterity and eye coordination of the hands, wrists and fingers to handle, feel, scrape, pounds or use force is constant up to 25 pounds. Walking conditions include vision, noise and vibration, respiratory and chemical hazards. The employee is required to work outside in all seasons, exposed to weather elements (both hot and cold.) The employee will work in day and night time conditions and walk on even and uneven/sloping grounds. The employee will operate heavy equipment on and off the roadway. The employee will continually rotate through various body positions (standing, twisting, bending, sitting kneeling) while operating equipment and performing various other tasks frequently and on a daily basis. The employee will operate motor vehicles and heavy equipment such as snowplow/sander loader, etc. The employee must frequently move heavy objects by pushing, pulling, or lifting and carrying.
