Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital Specialty Nurse: Wound Care in Manistique, Michigan

JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinic Wound Care Nurse works directly with the wound care provider. The nurse completes wound care nurse visits and assists with wound care assessments on Medical-Surgical floor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current MI state RN BSN license.

  • Current CFCN certification or willing to obtain this certification.

  • Previous medical office experience desired.

  • Ability to deal with patients tactfully and courteously.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with doctors, other employees, and patients.

  • Knowledge of current medical practices and procedures.

  • Ability to provide quality care and to assist the physician with procedures and exams in the office setting.

  • Accuracy and dedication to providing high quality patient care.

  • BLS Certified

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Takes patients vital signs, chief complaints and prepares patient for the physician examination.

  • Provides assistance to the provider so they can make the best possible use of their time and provide quality care.

  • Responsible for preparing each patient appropriately, seeing that exam rooms are adequately prepared, and that clinical information is made available for physician review.

  • Assures the completion of data entry for orders and completed interventions.

  • Performs patient education/teaching at physician’s request.

  • Assists physician with patient phone calls, prescription refills, etc.

  • Provides patient care including injections, various treatments and diagnostic testing (i.e. pulse oximetry, mini mental exams) and documents accordingly.

  • Restocks exam rooms and makes lists for ordering clinical supplies.

  • Provides accurate documentation in patient EMR and reporting to other agencies (i.e. health department).

  • Assists in ordering Med Line Supplies for patients.

  • Completes Wound Care inventory.

  • Completed medication log to be routed to pharmacy.

  • Transports and communicates with ED nurse for any transfers from the clinic.

  • Maintains accountability of pharmaceutical samples.

  • Maintains appropriate supplies of stock medications with attention to expiration dates.

  • Addresses patient inquiries with tact and courtesy.

  • Demonstrates appropriateness in meeting objectives in age-specifics.

  • Orders and completes requisitions for wound vacs.

  • Performs wound consults on Medical-Surgical floor if needed.

  • Starts process for PICCO dressings and Gafix skin substitutes.

  • Performs foot and nail care at the Naubinway Clinic.

  • Performs home visits as needed.

  • Assists other departments as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
