Shelter Staff assure a safe and supportive living environment for residents of The Crisis Centers safe shelter for victims of sexual and domestic violence and their children. Shelter Staff are on duty in the shelter outside of the Crisis Centers regular office hours (nights, weekends, and holidays).

Regular Shelter Staff shifts are: Monday through Friday 5:00pm-8:00am, Saturday and Sunday 8:00am5:00pm and 5:00pm-8:00am. There may occasionally be shifts outside of the regular shifts, as needed. The Shelter Staff person is the only staff member present in shelter from 10:30pm until 8:00am.

Specific Duties:

Interact with shelter residents and provide healthy social interactions.

Be available to residents in common living areas when residents are downstairs and in those areas.

Orient new residents to the shelter, assisting Staff On-Call as needed.

Actively participate in upkeep of the shelter as needed (take out trash, sweep, mop, clean bathrooms, do laundry, pick up, etc.).

Monitor and assist with responsibilities and expectations of residents.

Ensure exiting residents are provided exit surveys and reviews, and safety planning.

Answer crisis hotline calls.

Communicate specific shelter needs/ repairs during shift.

Requirements: Ability to relate to diverse individuals in a non-judgmental manner; ability to work with people from underserved communities; ability to handle and manage stress; ability to calmly address emergency or crisis situations; ability to maintain strict confidentiality; ability to manage multiple demands simultaneously; ability to be flexible; bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. Must understand and maintain healthy professional boundaries with all clients. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and written. Successful completion of provided training is required. Each staff member of The Crisis Center, Inc. must have reliable transportation, a valid drivers license and insurance at all times, and be capable of lifting and carrying 20 - 30 pounds. Must be able to pass criminal and child abuse background check.

Compensation: \$15.00/ hour

Employment Status: Part-time, hourly, non-exempt
