\ \ Fellow (Post Doc)\ \ Department: 3670020060 Biology\ Job no: 517480\ Employment type: Staff Full Time (Unclassified - Term)\ Location: Manhattan, Kansas\ Worksite: On-site requirement\ Categories: Research / Scientific / Grants\ Pay Grade: 001\ \ \ About This Role:\ The Division of Biology, Kansas State University, seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to investigate mechanisms of translational regulation in eukaryotes in the laboratory of Dr. Katsura Asano.\ \ This project is funded by an NIH grant and is aimed at identifying rate-limiting steps in start codon selection, and using resulting knowledge to address new problems in basic human molecular biology, including cancer. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in molecular biological, biochemical, and genomics work. Job responsibilities will include recombinant DNA construction, mutagenesis, cell culturing, expression analyses, and biochemical and phenotypic characterization related to translational control and potential cancer outcomes. Additional biochemical work will include protein purification requiring French press, HPLC manipulations and protein-protein or RNA-protein affinity measurements. Genomics approaches will include library construction for ribosome footprint RNA sequencing and other immunoprecipitation-type RNA sequencing, and analyses of RNA sequencing datasets. Other responsibilities include shared work of supervising undergraduate and graduate student members of the lab, working on similar but smaller projects (10% time allocation) and lab management to include supply orders, equipment, and biological sample maintenance (5 % time allocation). Job responsibilities may include very occasional heavy lifting and/or transport of liquid nitrogen containers (\10 kg) or laboratory equipment.\ \ The members of the Asano lab actively collaborate with computational, structural biology and genomics experts world-wide. The selected candidate will be offered appropriate advice from these experts related to steps needed to do the work.\ \ The candidate is expected to work in-person in the lab during the entirety of the project period.\ \ The position is open starting June 22nd, 2024. The annual renewal of this position depends on the demonstrated candidate progress and funding availability.\ \ To learn about our research, please refer to:
