Are you new to Phlebotomy?We will train you! After a combination of on-the-job training and working with our Workforce Readiness Institute, you will be ready to move into your permanent Phlebotomist position. Upon completion of your training and 100 unaided-successful sticks, you are eligible to sit for the ASCP Phlebotomy Technician certification, paid for by us! Additionally, you move into the Advanced Trainee Role on our Career Ladder!

Do you already have phlebotomy experience or training?We have open positions, and the Career Ladder still applies to you!

The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, a focus on customer service and providing a great patient experience, along with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

We currently have the following open position(s):

  • Full-time (day shift), 40 hours/week, working 10:00am-6:30pm at our Manchester Clinic

  • Full-time (day shift), 40 hours/week, working 10:00am-6:30pm at our Concord Clinic

All per diem, part-time and full-time positions require weekends on rotation. Part-time and full-time positions require holidays on rotation.

An integral part of our hospital operations – the role of the Phlebotomist is a key player in the facilitation of collecting and passing along a vital piece of information to our Laboratory and Pathologists to help DHMC and Clinics achieve its mission of providing each person the best care, in the right place, at the right time, every time. The Phlebotomist collects blood samples from patients of all ages. Identifies patients and procures samples.

Responsibilities

Trainee Phlebotomist:

  • Demonstrates strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Participates in the classroom learning environment through didactic, virtual, and hands-on activities.

  • Completes all classroom activities and assignments as outlined by the classroom instructors.

  • Learns the knowledge and skills to perform various phlebotomy functions in a timely manner yielding accurate, properly labeled samples for high-quality testing.

  • Learns to perform various assigned functions related to demographic data, test requisitioning, keyboarding, data entry, updating, uploading, making encounters, and printing of files labels, and reports.

  • Learns to identify patients and label specimens following departmental procedure. Learns to obtain a quality blood and/or urine specimen from patients.

  • Learns to utilize proper resources for obtaining specimen requirement information.

  • Learns to transport samples to the laboratory via proper procedures.

  • Learns to complete and process a variety of forms, as dictated by the department.

  • Learns to obtain pre-authorizations and patient signatures.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and acts in accordance with all hospital safety requirements.

  • Prepares for national certification with the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Phlebotomy Technician exam (PBT)

Experienced Phlebotomist:

  • Obtains blood specimens from outpatients. Maintains knowledge of specific specimen requirements and follows the correct order of draw based on tube type and special handing of tests. Utilizes proper resources for obtaining specimen requirement information.

  • Collects and enters off-site blood work into system.

  • Completes and processes a variety of forms. Obtains pre-authorizations and patient signatures.

  • Prepares specimens for in-lab testing or off-site shipment. Processes specimens that require special handling according to established procedures or protocols.

  • Ensures blood drawing stations are clean and well stocked.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or the equivalent required.

  • 1 year of medical/technical experience desired

  • Ability to work independently and adhere to deadlines and manage changing volumes

  • Basic knowledge of computer software systems preferred

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required

  • Proven experience working with the public

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Current BCLS certification required within 30 days of hire

  • ASCP certification, preferred

  • Area of Interest:Allied Health;
