The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, Division for Children, Youth, and Families has a full time vacancy for Assistant Chef.

SUMMARY:

Responsible for a variety of institutional food service functions by insuring the delivery of kitchen support activities such as supervision of support staff, ordering, preparation and delivery of a variety of food items to the residents and staff of the Division for Children, Youth and Families, Sununu Youth Services Center (SYSC). Upholds the vision and mission of the agency through utilizing the Practice Model theories, beliefs and principles in daily practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Trains, supervises and evaluates the work of three cooks in performing their assigned duties. Complies job performance evaluations and disciplines dietary staff if necessary.

Oversee the operation of the SYSC kitchen in relation to: food preparation and delivery, cleaning and upkeep of the kitchen equipment and kitchen areas.

Cooks or otherwise prepares food according to recipes, cuts, trims and slices meat and poultry for cooking. Helps bake rolls, desserts, etc. when necessary.

Places orders for milk, baked goods and eggs directly to various vendors ensuring prompt delivery of goods.

Compiles orders for food service supplies and kitchen cleaning materials.

Compiles orders for frozen foods and vegetables and assists in monthly freezer inventory.

Organizes and rotates foodstuffs in freezer to ensure highest quality available.

Compiles goods in relation to special orders from departments (i.e. cookouts, court, GED testing, etc.)

Must perform accountabilities in accordance with established safety policies and procedures.

Communicates with supervisors regarding issues related to workplace safety.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:High school diploma or high school equivalency credential. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience:One year of experience in food preparation and cooking on a large scale. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification:Must possess a valid New Hampshire driver's license.
