Job Description
Medical Scientist– Cell Therapy
Territory - North West England, Yorkshire and North Wales
Gilead Sciences Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and commercialises innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. In 2018 Gilead purchased Kite Pharma Inc. to begin to work in the area of cellular therapies.
This opportunity is a full-time, field-based, medical affairs role working on chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) therapy across a defined geographical territory of referring and CART infusing treatment centres within the Kite business unit of Gilead UKI. You will be the critical, first point of medical contact between health care providers (HCPs) and the company. This role would ideally suit a medical/nursing/pharmacy/life science professional looking to establish themselves as a regional CART medical expert and educator.
The position will be a field-based Medical Scientist (MS) covering Northwest England, Yorkshire and North Wales as a territory, from a home office base in North West England or Yorkshire. For both options a home base close to airport, train and road links to facilitate regular travel to the CART delivery centres (Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Liverpool) and their allied referring hospitals will be needed. Visits to the London UK affiliate office in Holborn, London will also be required.
As one member of an MS team of 5 the successful applicant will:
focus on providing expert medical education to NHS stakeholders in CART infusion centres and referring hospitals within their designated territory. This will require deep understanding and communication of all aspects of cell therapy for haematological malignancies, notably in aggressive and indolent lymphomas and acute leukaemias. The expectation is the successful candidate will aim for an 80% focus on field work (e.g. preparation, visits, data dissemination, scientific exchange, regular interaction tool and dashboard entry analysis, Insights capture, real world evidence generation, etc.)
collaborate extensively with the entire UK CART medical team and UK CART business unit members, both in the field as part of day-to-day cross functional key account management (xKAM) & from time-to-time travel to the UK affiliate office in Holborn, central London.
work closely with the cellular therapy account manager (CTAM), and case manager (CM) for the territory to address specific account challenges and establish who from the team will address local territory account issues in line with the UKI MS Ways of Working process.
undertake extensive travel including appointments and meetings within territory, as well as regional, national international conferences and meetings in the affiliate office + ACE regional office at Stockley Park, Uxbridge on a regular basis now COVID restrictions are lifted. Overnight hotel stays will be required.
This role reports to the national field -based MS team manager (Kite MS Team Lead).
Essential Role Requirements
The candidate must be a medical/nursing/pharmacy/ life science professional holding an entry level degree.
The individual must have excellent scientific communication and presentation skills.
Ability to work well in a team (and demonstrate examples of where they have done this to date)
Willingness to take ownership/responsibility & deliver on multiple simultaneous projects.
Full clean driving license, ability to travel away from home on company business with occasional overnight national and international travel.
Preferred Role Requirements
Previous industry experience working with CAR/TCR therapies or in the field of haemato-oncology is strongly preferred.
Previous industry Medical Scientific Liaison experience, ABPI exam sat and passed (if not will be a requirement to do so first year in role).
Post graduate degree qualifications are strongly preferred (e.g. MSc, PhD, MB,BS, MD).
The ability to develop new strategic relationships and an understanding of other cancer therapies.
An understanding of NICE health technology appraisal systems.
