Your Impact:

This is a discipline working manager position for site-based projects that incorporates and develops technical, leadership, and management skills. Position is designed to expose employee to project and engineering management while maintaining their technical acumen. Employee will have considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments while providing technical guidance to drafters, designers, and engineers.

Technical Responsibilities:

Responsible for performing engineering calculations and providing design data/parameters and design reviews within the discipline-specific systems including but not limited to HVAC, hydronics, coils, heat exchangers, pumps, chillers, cooling towers, vacuum systems, general and process exhaust systems, fans, process cooling water, and compressed gasses. Performs work with little to no supervision, reviews work of discipline team for acceptability on completion, and act as engineer of record for design packages. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Performs and properly documents/annotates engineering calculations, both manual and computer generated

  • Develops drawings for equipment layouts, tool installation, and facility systems and interconnects

  • Generates process flow diagrams (1-lines) and P&IDs

  • Selects discipline specific equipment and materials of construction

  • Coordinates and resolves conflicts with other disciplines to deliver complete design package(s)

  • Develops thorough understanding of the needs of the other disciplines

  • Other project-specific duties as directed by the program/project manager

Management Responsibilities:

Acting as discipline team leader, employee will be responsible for:

  • Completing annual performance reviews for aligned staff

  • Managing and coaching aligned staff on their skills and capabilities; provides skill development opportunities (near-term professional development) and supports career development (long-term goal planning)

  • Integrating new staff into team

  • Communicating with aligned staff (i.e. regular team meetings and 1:1 meetings, etc.)

  • Communicating with SBS Department Manager regarding performance of aligned staff

  • Approving time and expense for aligned staff

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Requires progressive experience in general engineering and project delivery

  • Demonstrated ability to identify various options to solve technical problems, describe pros and cons of each option, present options/findings to entire design team (Jacobs) as well as client technical staff (engineers, architects, operations, etc.)

  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards (ASHRAE, ASME, SMACNA, IBC, IFC, IMC, NFPA, etc.)

  • Has successfully acted as design engineer in all areas of discipline

  • Has successfully acted (or acting) as team leader on large, multi-discipline project

Ideally, you will have:

  • BS or MS degree in engineering from ABET accredited program/institution

  • PE required

  • 6 - 15+ years
