The Associate Scientist in Large Molecule (LM) Drug Product Development (DPD) will work independently and in conjunction with development teams to support program/project needs. The candidate will also independently lead, design and perform development and engineering in support of process and fill-finish activities for large molecules (e.g. monoclonal antibodies, fusion proteins, bi-specifics, gene therapies, cell therapies etc).
Lead biologics drug product development activities from discovery through commercialization, collaborating with global teams representing functions within the Chemistry and Manufacturing Controls (CMC) at Janssen.
Lead process development studies to determine and characterize process parameters associated with preparation of biologic drug products. Studies include, but are not limited to, freeze-thaw, mixing, filtration, pumping, filling, biophysical characterization, stability, composition robustness, lyophilization, spray drying, spray-freeze drying and drug delivery.
Lead, facilitate, and participate in technical discussions to successfully resolve problems with suppliers, methods, project issues and deviations.
Design, develop and deploy automation within manufacturing unit operations to ensure competitiveness and organizational excellence.
Progress the technical understanding of process impact on drug product (inclusive of drug product delivery), ensuring consistent scientific excellence and scientific quality standards are met.
Opportunity to develop process engineering skills including the use of multiphysics software for process modeling and the statistical analysis of data.
BS in Engineering (Biomedical, Bioengineering, Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical) with 3 years experience (including co-op, internships or research experience), or MS with 1 year of work experience is required.
Proven proficiency and experience in biologics and device development (mAbs, gene therapies, cell therapies etc) within the pharmaceutical industry with a high level of technical understanding is helpful.
Effective communication skills and demonstrated leadership in providing integration of activities and delivering information across multifunctional groups and sites is helpful.
This position will be based in Malvern/ Spring House and may require up to 15% international and domestic travel.
