Internship Program Overview:

Our Interns & Co-ops are our entry-level talent pipeline for GF across the globe. Summary of Role:

As an I&C Engineering Intern you will be responsible for maintaining the Facilities SCADA system consisting of PLC’s, field instrumentation and HMI’s. Engineering Intern positions are an hourly shift position primarily working a 5 day a week M-F shift.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ability to learn programming and programming changes to PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) based controls systems

  • Ability to learn programming and perform changes to operator interface SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems

  • Ability to learn the maintaining and updating of the FMCS (Facilities Monitoring and Control System) and associated networks and network components

  • Ability to learn FMCS changes to accommodate customer needs on various facilities related process equipment including, but not limited to: Acid Scrubbers, Caustic Scrubbers, VOC Abatement Units, Process Cooling Water Systems, Process Vacuum Systems, Chillers and Chilled Water Support Equipment, Boilers and Hot Water Support Equipment, Process Delivery Systems and various Make-Up and Recirculating Air Handling Systems.

  • Ability to learn integration of 3rd party devices and systems into FMCS

  • Assist and learn troubleshooting and repair FMCS related issues in conjunction with our I&C Technicians

  • Work with other Facilities departments to troubleshoot and solve their controls related issues

  • Assist in the creation of operations and maintenance specifications

  • Partner with Senior Technicians and Management in identifying training requirements and safety procedures in assigned specialty areas 

  • Partner with Engineering, Staff Technicians and other specialty technicians on various facilities projects and training tasks.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned and assist other specialty areas as required .

    Other Responsibilities:

  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Education – Actively pursuing a four (4) BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Science, Math, Semi-Conductor operations or related field.

  • Language Fluency - English (Written & Verbal)

  • Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior related internship or co-op experience

  • Project management skills, i.e. the ability to innovate and execute on solutions that matter; the ability to navigate ambiguity.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong planning & organizational skills

  • Experience with programming of Allen-Bradley PLCs (or any other brand) 

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, manuals, PIDs, and operations specifications. 

  • Able to work in a cleanroom environment per semi-conductor protocol/requirements

  • Ability to perform SCADA Programming

  • Ability to set up and maintain LANs

  • Ability to operate computer programs

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures to complete tasks and required documentation.

  • Ability to work in an environment requiring high level of attention to detail and timeliness.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize activities.

  • Able to wear PPE in accordance with Emergency Response Protocols and OSHA standards
