JCEO Health and Disabilities Specialist in Malone, New York
JCEO is a private, not-for-profit human service agency that serves the residents of Clinton and Franklin Counties in New York State. This role supports the Health & Disabilities Services Coordinator (H&DSC) by assisting teachers with behavioral issues at Franklin County HS/EHS sites. It involves providing resources to families, helping in crises, maintaining confidentiality, and acting as a liaison between the H&DSC and families. The position may also offer transportation, childcare, and other social services, while promoting family support and self-reliance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned. Implement goals and policies to meet performance standards. Review applications and medical/family histories to provide appropriate services. Train and guide staff, parents, and the community on disabilities and mental health topics under supervision. Ensure annual screenings and ongoing monitoring of disabilities and mental health services. Maintain accurate records for screenings, referrals, and IEP/IFSPs, and collaborate on service plan implementation. Facilitate communication among staff, parents, program consultants, and the community to enhance services. Serve as a liaison between the Health & Disabilities Services Coordinator (H&DSC) and parents, advocating for necessary services. Act as a case manager for children with disabilities and attend relevant meetings. Assist in recruiting children and ensuring those needing mental health or disability services receive evaluations and referrals. Ensure parental consent forms are signed for mental health consultant services. Participate in center team meetings and organize case conferences as needed. Conduct site visits for observations under supervision. Participate in parent orientation meetings. Attend, record, and compile minutes from Health and Mental Health Advisory Meetings. Help develop ongoing education on mental health and disabilities for parents under guidance. Participate in parent support groups as directed. Attend required training and comply with health and safety regulations. Support efforts to secure non-federal share for health and disabilities services. Perform duties in alignment with the mission of the Joint Council for Economic Opportunity. Carry out additional related tasks as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associates Degree with a concentration in Early Childhood/Special Education is preferred. Experience in Early childhood settings preferred.
