Job Title: Staff Scientist

Job Description

The Application Scientist will be responsible for running samples sent by customers to evaluate the performance of various instruments. This includes performing lab work on products such as batteries, pharmaceutical instrumentation, and injection devices. Tasks involve mounting samples, setting scan conditions, understanding instrument physics, setting x-ray strength, filtering data, analyzing images, and building 3D images to identify potential failures. The role also includes traveling to customer sites to provide application training and technical support, as well as participating in marketing activities, such as writing technical materials and representing the equipment at conferences and tradeshows.

Job Type

This is a permanent position.

Work Site

This is a hybrid position requiring some days on-site in Madison, Wisconsin and some days remote.

Work Environment

This is a salary-exempt position requiring 40 hours per week, typically 9am-5pm. Office hours are 9am-3pm from Tuesday to Thursday, with remote work possible on Mondays and Fridays. The role involves 30% travel, typically 1-2 weeks per month, including Sundays to Fridays. Travel arrangements are self-organized, with expenses covered by the company. The Application Scientist will join a business unit team and will be one of seven Application Scientists, with plans to expand the team by the end of 2025.
