Oracle Principal Software Engineer in Madison, Wisconsin

Job Description

As a Principal Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building and maintaining major features in Oracle Health’s Millennium Platform. The ideal candidate will be technically strong in the C Language, with C++ experience highly preferred, and have a solid understanding of database architecture and concepts. This role will engage in development and support of an SQL-based programming language which integrates with the database and Millennium architecture.


  • Accountable for software design, code quality and architecture decisions

  • Engage in design sessions and code reviews for functional correctness, architectural maintainability, and performance

  • Perform software risk analysis, identify and implement mitigations

  • Collaborate with product teams as a solution expert to provide recommendations

  • Reinforce and promote engineering culture and values across the organization and Oracle


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science

  • 10+ years of professional software development experience or 8 years with an advanced degree in Computer Science.

  • Deep experience in C and C++ Languages.

  • Development experience with relational databases and file systems (Linux).

  • Strong experience with data structures, algorithms, concurrency, multi-threading, and object-oriented design.

  • Written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to various audiences.

  • Comfortable in a collaborative, agile development environment.

  • Strong design skills for building performant, highly scalable, and extensible systems.

  • Strong desire to make an impact and thrive in collaborative and energetic environments

Range and benefit information provided in this posting are specific to the stated locations only

US: Hiring Range: from $94,200 to $223,500 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Oracle maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions and locations, as well as reflect Oracle’s differing products, industries and lines of business.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

  8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position. Accrued Vacation is provided to all other employees eligible for vacation benefits. For employees working at least 35 hours per week, the vacation accrual rate is 13 days annually for the first three years of employment and 18 days annually for subsequent years of employment. Vacation accrual is prorated for employees working between 20 and 34 hours per week. Employees working fewer than 20 hours per week are not eligible for vacation.

  10. Paid sick leave: 72 hours of paid sick leave upon date of hire. Refreshes each calendar year. Unused balance will carry over each year up to a maximum cap of 112 hours.
