General Purpose of Work

Employee performs basic maintenance and repairs on light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles; trailers; off-road construction equipment; and specialty equipment under the supervision of journey-level technicians. Fleet equipment includes cars, Class 1 to Class 8 trucks, construction equipment, aerial units, digger derricks, cranes, tractors, forklifts, trailers, and other types of vehicles and small equipment.

General Duties

  • Performs preventive maintenance service and Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections on vehicles and equipment.

  • Diagnoses and repairs basic vehicle systems.

  • Repairs and replaces tires.

  • Operates Class 1 to Class 8 vehicles, trailers, and other equipment on roadway.

  • Operates construction and off-road equipment, aerial devices, digger derricks, cranes, and other specialized equipment.

  • Operates shop equipment including hoists, lifting equipment, cranes, tire-changing equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and other equipment used to maintain vehicles.

  • Maintains repairs and maintenance records.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Trade or vocational school certification preferred.

  • Must possess a valid state of Wisconsin driver's license.

  • Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or be able to obtain one within six (6) months of employment.

  • Must possess a set of hand tools and toolbox.

Knowledge and Skills to be Acquired

  • Two years of experience repairing and maintaining commercial vehicles.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Familiarity with electronic diagnostic tools.

  • Able to effectively communicate with managers, coworkers, and customers.

  • Experience using computers for accessing files and records, managing information, and electronic communications.

This position is subject to drug testing according to the Federal Department of Transportation regulations.
