Thermo Fisher Scientific Financial Analyst in Madison, Wisconsin

Position Summary:

This financial analyst will have direct exposure to the Spectroscopy senior leadership team and four product lines. This role is responsible to drive and consolidate month-end close, forecasting processes, annual operating plan (AOP), and strategic plan (STRAP) of the worldwide Spectroscopy business. This role reports directly to the Sr. Manager, Finance, Global FP&A.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning & Forecasting

  • Support and drive all monthly, quarterly, and annual financial processes to include month-end close, reporting, planning, forecasting, and analytics

  • Ensure accurate, timely, and insightful reporting and forecasting of global Spectroscopy bookings and revenue

  • Support preparation of MBR and QBR by providing insights on results and outlook

  • Sets proactive expectations with team and coordinates deliverables to support divisional and corporate requirements.

  • Manage global Spectroscopy capital and headcount budget, forecast, and plan

  • Develop and utilize proactive, early indicator reporting metrics to communicate financial risk or opportunities to senior management

  • Business partnership

  • Actively supports functional business partners within G&A and R&D by ensuring assumptions are transparent, effectively anticipates needs, and demonstrates understanding flow of information

  • Analyze financial and business performance against key business metrics and document pertinent financial highlights that will enable management to determine progress against strategic / business plan and budgets

  • Communicate analysis and recommendations in concise informative manner appropriate for the audience

  • Questions status quo and looks for opportunities to improve

  • Technology and analytics

  • Assist in implementing system upgrades, which will drive data governance, automate reporting, and scale business to greater insights / predictions.

  • Support adoption of Hyperion Planning 2.0 to drive scale with headcount reporting and forecasting

  • Assist in the design of systems and processes to gather and report business critical information.

  • Leading:

  • Actively support functional business partners within G&A and R&D

  • Lead functional business partners through AOP and STRAP processes

  • Drive PPI business system capabilities to more proactively address critical pain points

  • Present to Spectroscopy leadership team on business outlook with insights on status to date

  • Other

  • Create and build upon standard work documents and cross train with the rest of the team

  • Ensures our finance team adheres to all company policies and procedures as established.

  • Special projects and ad hoc as needed

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or MBA in Accounting or Finance.

  • Prior experience in a Finance or FP&A role.

  • Excellent problem solving skills with attention to detail; ability to step back and analyze the overall business impact.

  • Willingness to dig into details and analyze variances and trends.

  • Excellent financial modeling skills.

  • The successful candidate also has very good overall business skills; he/she does not limit the scope of responsibilities to FP&A, but helps to develop solutions to broad business issues.

  • Advanced user of data systems Advanced Excel and Powerpoint and preferred strength in financial systems capabilities such as HFM, CMR, SAP, Hyperion Planning

  • Must be able to work well under pressure, handling multiple tasks in a complex environment with strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills, able to manage priorities and workflow.

  • Ability to travel 10% of time.
