U W-MADISON DIV. CONTINUING STUDIES CDR Pilot Plant Manager in MADISON, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The Center for Dairy Research (CDR) is seeking a dairy Pilot Plant Manager to support a growing innovative unit on the UW-Madison campus. Housed in a new, state-of-the-art facility in Babcock Hall, CDR is the largest dairy foods research program in the US. The Center has over 60 full-time staff, supports graduate and undergraduate research, and provides technical and training support services to hundreds of dairy producers and processers around the globe. The Pilot Plant Manager will direct the daily operations of all CDR pilot plants to assure a safe, quality-controlled environment to execute research and product development trials related to various dairy products including cheese, beverages, powders, and other co-products. Essential to this role will be developing, training, scheduling trials and staff while maintaining high standards of food safety and quality to meet state and federal regulatory requirements. The pilot plant manager will supervise cheesemakers and dairy operators including assigning tasks, monitoring work, setting work schedules, and other supervisory activities. With the support of key team leads, this role has over-arching responsibility for scheduling dairy product trials for industry and research projects and training, interacting with the cheese and dairy ingredient applications coordinators to identify all the details of the dairy processing operations that are required for these processing trials, and oversee the operators and cheesemakers conducting these trials. This position will manage and work alongside plant operators in all pilot plant lab tasks including: receiving milk, testing and standardizing milk, pasteurization of milk, cheesemaking, ripening, other dairy product processing, testing and documenting results, cleaning and sanitation including the CIP room, product sampling, routine and preventative maintenance in conjunction with the CDR maintenance staff, food safety plan requirements, and inventory control.
