U W-MADISON DIV. CONTINUING STUDIES Assistant Professor in Polymers and in MADISON, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin, Madison seeks candidates in polymer and composite processing and engineering to join their interdisciplinary advanced manufacturing group as a tenure-track Assistant Professor. We invite candidates with specializations in polymer processing, science, and engineering through analytical, experimental, and/or computational approaches to apply. We are especially interested in candidates who have expertise in the following broad areas: 1. Development of advanced manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, extrusion, additive manufacturing) and tools (e.g., artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, Industry 4.0) for polymers, polymer blends, polymer composites, elastomers, and/or multi-functional polymer materials. 2. Design of polymer materials that either (1) possess optimal properties and new functionalities arising from advanced manufacturing processes and/or (2) possess properties that enable manufacturability via advanced processes. 3. Additive and advanced manufacturing of new, stronger, lighter, and competitive polymers and polymer composite materials for applications ranging from energy, infrastructure, medical devices, transportation, and many other sectors. 4. Sustainable manufacturing and materials, including biopolymers and natural rubber, and/or recycling or upcycling processes of polymers/plastics using economically sound processes that minimize negative environmental impacts while conserving energy and natural resources and ensuring the safety and health of employees and consumers. 5. Development of new functional soft materials, particularly those based on dynamic polymer networks, via additive manufacturing. Building an adaptable, responsive, and intelligent material system by combining their distinct mechanical signature (derived from the intrinsic molecular-level processes) and complex 3D geometrical design (benefited from additive manufacturing) to achieve desirable material performance. Candidates with expertise that spans these targeted areas and transcends the traditional boundaries of a single department are especially... For full info follow application link.
