Manitou Americas Inc Senior Manufacturing Engineer in Madison, South Dakota

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY: As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will plan, direct and coordinate manufacturing processes andprojects in the plant; respond to manufacturing issues and concerns to ensure products are produced tospecifications and according to manufacturing schedules while ensuring efficient use of resources.Manufacturing Engineer reports to Manufacturing Engineering Manager. The Manufacturing Engineer willoversee the design of production machinery and will identify and recommend solutions to productionproblems related to materials, processes, and tooling.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under direction of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager you will develop, evaluate andimprove manufacturing methods.
  • Determine the processes, identifies the materials and supplies to be used, and designs andbuilds appropriate fixtures necessary for efficient and cost effective manufacturing.
  • Establish bills of material, manufacturing routings, machine burdens, and new work centers.
  • Create work instructions for new products to be manufactured.
  • Design tools and machines used to manufacture products.
  • Review production program equipment, hardware, and tooling; makes recommendations forrepairs or replacement.
  • Oversee the development of new processes, methods, and production controls.
  • Install new equipment and ensure that it operates correctly; trains others to operate newmachinery.
  • Maintain knowledge of new and developing manufacturing technology, equipment, andapplications; applies this knowledge to recommend and implement new technology andprocesses.
  • Process internal engineering change orders (ECOs), processes and incorporates thechanges, and ensures changes become effective.
  • Study and record time, motion, methods and speed involved in performance of productionand other worker operations to establish standard production rates and to improveefficiencies. Institutes changes in the production processes and/or recommendsadjustments to product pricing.
  • Perform engineering activities in compliance with established company and manufacturingstandards, engineering principles, customer requirements, and related specifications.
  • Confer with customers and engineering staff concerning product design and tooling toinsure efficient production methods.
  • Confer with vendors to determine part specifications and recommend the purchase ofequipment and materials used in manufacturing and production.
  • Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs for managementdecisions.
  • Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities,production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes. Otherduties may be assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three to five or more years of experience in fabrication and welding of construction andagricultural equipment is preferred.
  • Three or more years of experience with process development/deployment, tooling design,fixturing, and workstation layout in a production environment.
  • Three years of experience as a manufacturing engineer is preferred.

EXPERTISE:

  • Excellent mechanical aptitude, communication and computer skills are required. Must beable to gather, manipulate and analyze data.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess problems or issueswith manufacturing equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of production principles and techniques.
  • Proficient with computer-aided drafting (CAD) software.

EDUCATION:

  • BS Degree in Engineering or Manufacturing required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.

INTERNAL and EXTERNAL CONNECTIONS:

  • This position will interact with all depa tments, other sites and suppliers.

LOCALIZATION AND TRAVEL EXPECTED:

  • This position is located in Madison, SD.
  • Travel up to 5% may be required.
