Fairleigh Dickinson University Visiting Lecturer of Theater in Madison, New Jersey

Summary of Position: The Visiting Assistant Professor of Theater will be responsible for teaching, directing, mentoring students, and collaborating with other Theater department faculty on auditioning/recruitment, and the execution of the theater curriculum and theater season. They will also have administrative and producing responsibilities as the Associate Producer of Theater. This position reports directly to the Director of Theater.ResponsibilitiesThe Visiting Assistant Professor will:1.Teach three (3) classes per semester in: Directing, Theater Literature/History, Introduction to Acting, Acting, Acting for TV/Film, and/or Professional Practice, as needed. 2.Direct one musical in the spring semester on the Dreyfuss Stage. 3.Associate-produce the theater season in the Dreyfuss and Barn Theaters, overseeing guest artists, directors, and students to ensure excellence and best practices.4.Assist in recruitment efforts, including attending associated activities such as open houses and recruitment fairs, and holding student auditions. 5.Serve as faculty advisor for the student theater organization, Fairleigh Dramatics.6.Mentor Theater students.7.Collaborate closely with the Director of Theater and Theater faculty, as well as with colleagues in the School of the Arts and other departments at FDU, to ensure quality of curriculum and program excellence.8.Take an active role in the Outcomes/Assessment Plan for Theater.9.Hold office hours and rehearsals.10.Attend faculty meetings within the program, department, and college.QualificationsThe ideal candidate should have:1.An MFA in Directing, Acting, Production, Theater Management, or another area of Theater. Candidates with equivalent professional experience might also be considered.2.Teaching experience, particularly in Directing, Acting (e.g. Meisner, Hagen, Stanislavski), Theater Lit/History, and/or Acting for TV and Film.3.A proven professional record in the areas of Directing, Acting, or Artistic Producing.4.At least 3 years of university teaching experience.5.Administrative or producing experience.6.Experience with and/or a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.7.A record of engagement with work by non-Western/BIPOC/Queer artists.8.Experience with recruitment of and/or engagement with a diverse student population.9.Experience directing musicals. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
