POSITION SUMMARY:

Person in this position is responsible for providing after hours psychiatric crisis response to residents of Madera County and clients of the Department of Behavioral Health. The mental health clinician responds when there is need to evaluate a person for 5150 hospitalizations. Arrange for hospitalization when required. Requires the ability to collaborate with Emergency Department staff in a professional manner. The person in this position is part of an evening, overnight, weekend and holiday response team. The staff member is co-occurring proficient in screening, integrated assessment and dually focused treatment needs dependent on the person’s served, stage and phase of changes for each identified area to address their concerns based upon the strengths, needs, abilities and preferences of the person served. This position is based out of the Madera Sheriff’s Department building. Essential Job Functions include those listed below.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Plan and coordinate the clinical activities pertaining to mental health services to clients and their families presenting in crisis to local hospital.

  • Maintain clear and informative clinical documentation.

  • Ensure that all shift duties are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with WestCare and Madera Behavioral Health Services (BHS) procedures.

  • Collaborate with Madera County DBH personnel, including the crisis response clinician.

  • Assist staff at arriving at solutions to client problems as they relate to mental health issues.

  • Participate in staff training as it relates to crisis intervention and therapeutic skills.

  • Participation in Quality Improvement activities in an ongoing basis.

  • Knowledge of community referrals to facilitate service linkage.

  • Assist other WestCare staff as needed in a collaborative manner to promote cooperation and portray a professional image to the community.

  • Responsible for maintaining the client charts in compliance with agency, state and any other rules and standards; and

  • Must Embrace and embody the mission, vision, guiding principles, clinical vision, and goals of WestCare Foundation; and

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain WestCare’s vehicle insurance is required.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Madera County Credentialing.

  • As mandated by the State of California those employees who work at Residential, Outpatient, Sober Living, provide Mental Health Services, Administrative Staff or Transitional Living Facilities must be fully vaccinated and have received a booster. Employees that have requested a Medical or Religious Exemption, which has been approved by Human Resources will be required to test for the virus weekly.

  • During your tenure with WestCare there may be new requirements, including, but not limited to vaccinations that are issued by local, State, Federal, and/or Funders that WestCare may have to comply with. Should this occur Human Resources or appropriate personnel will inform you.

  • CPR Certification, First Aid Certification, and an annual Tuberculosis test.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduation from an accredited college with master’s degree in a discipline leading to licensure as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, or a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor.

    LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences as an AMFT, ACSW or APCC and in good standing is required at the time of hire.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is primarily performed in a professional office setting.

  • Some outdoor activities may be required.

  • Some travel is required.

    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB:

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires mobility and physical activity: Having an adequate range of body motion and mobility to work in an office, residential, or outdoor environment including standing and walking (even and uneven surfaces), sitting for extended periods of time, bending, twisting, reaching, balancing, occasional lifting and carrying of up to 10 pounds. Use of computer and telephone systems is required which includes coordination of eye and hand, and fine manipulation by the hands (typing, writing, and working with files). Requires the ability to defend oneself and clients in physically abusive situations using approved physical de-escalation techniques.

  • Requires talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Talking is required to impart oral information to employees, clients, patients, and the public, and in those activities in which the employee is required to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.

  • Requires hearing: Hearing is required to receive and communicate detailed information through oral communication.

  • Requires seeing: Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less and at distance. This factor is required to complete paperwork for many of the employee’s essential job functions and to observe client behavior and activities in and out of the facility.

  • The normal work routine involves no exposure to human blood, body fluids or tissues. However, exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate personal protective equipment will be readily available to every employee.
