Job Description:

APPOINTMENT: August 15, 2024

RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will assume a range of responsibilities including but not limited to: providing general education, professional preparation, and graduate instruction in public health and related fields; engagement in a level of scholarly/professional activities and university/community service meeting departmental and university criteria for advancement and tenure.

RANK & SALARY: Assistant Professor, 9-month, full-time tenure track appointment. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned doctorate conferred from a U.S. regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body) in Health Education, Public Health, or Health Behavior; a doctorate in a related field may be considered if Master\'s degree is in public health or health education. ABD will be considered, but the degree must be completed by date of appointment.
  • Potential for scholarship and service activities that meet departmental criteria for advancement and tenure.
  • Demonstrated competence in teaching higher education courses.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters of Public Health
  • A record of successful teaching, including teaching graduate courses.
  • A record of service on graduate portfolios and/or thesis committees.
  • Experience in public health.
  • Experience in public health accreditation.
  • Evidence of peer-reviewed scholarly activities.
  • Experience with a variety of instructional methodologies (e.g., lecture, seminar, service-learning, accelerated courses, distance learning, online instruction, and hybrid modes).

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Health Sciences and Social Work at Western Illinois University offers a Bachelor of Science in Health Services Management, a Bachelor of Science in Public Health, and a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) on the Macomb campus. Undergraduate students majoring in public health may select one of three emphasis areas: community health education, environmental and occupational safety, or public health preparedness. A Master of Public Health is available on both the Macomb and Quad Cities campuses. An online Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Health Services Administration is also offered.
